While not my first choice, I wouldn't be too upset about bring McKay or Meyer back. Richie would come back ONLY if he thinks he made a mistake by leaving originally. If that is the case, he would probably stick around for a long time and his experience at UVA, would be very helpful to him and LU. Meyer has a great resume, but he is a bit older, you have to wonder if he wants to do it again. I really like Meyers fellow assistant at Michigan, seems to have a great background. Regardless of who it is, I hope he will be the right guy.

Oh, well, that is a relief. Usually when I go out to eat, I hope my food tastes really good. Sometimes though, I'm hoping that it's subpar.

I get sometimes in these coaching search situations, fans will say, "We want ___(former HC)___!" But I've positively NEVER heard it so sincerely pushed as in this case now. Can we really not have an original thought??

I really like LeVelle Moton. That is a guy who gets it. Rough around the edges, but authentic And relatable. Every article I read I am more and more impressed. His life/career reads like a "what to do when" manual. Results without resources. Imagine what he could do here. Guy is a gem. See articles and videos about Coach K as a mentor to Moton; Coach K gushing over Moton. Demonstrated program and culture builder. Would take a lot to convince me he doesn't deserve to be our HC. I already forgot about Jason Allison.

I dont mean to be "that guy", but quoting bible verses makes you a Christian about as much as quoting Winston Churchill makes you a military general I think. I do hope his actions match his talk on his Twitter feed

The more I hear about Moton, the more I think he'd be a great fit. The video is great.

The thing is, I don't think he'll leave his alma mater. He sounds like a guy that is happy where he is and isn't looking at moving out of the Raleigh area. He grew up there. I don't think he'll leave.

If he proves to be the guy we want, I don't think him moving a couple of hours north will be a huge problem.

Those are both Kentuckians we have brought up in the past, Mike. Prohm would be an off the hook hire for us. But i suspect he has high major options in his near future if not already.

Murray State and Eastern Kentucky are both better jobs than LU by most any definition, and I believe both those guys make more than what we paid Layer (and apparently will be continuing to pay him for some time). I still can't get over the fact that we apparently gave him a 4 year extension. My respect for JB has dropped a notch or 2 based on that alone, and if JLFJR signed off on it, ditto for him. JB needs to step it up and redeem himself with a GREAT hire here.

As far as Moton is concerned, it's probably safe to say that NCCU maxed out by giving him that 8 year extension, but at "only" $250,000/yr we can certainly offer more $$$, along with better facilities and a much bigger budget. If his faith is as important to him as it seems to be, the opportunity to share it more openly may also appeal to him. He is a bit unusual in that he has never coached anywhere else but his alma mater at the college level, so he may actually be curious to taste the grass on the other side of the fence.

olldflame - At least before this past year's extension was given to Neubauer (can't find new salary numbers), we have been paying Coach Layer more than either Murray State or EKU. Both programs obviously have experienced considerably great success and prestige. But money is not our issue.

As for TheGOvernor's post ... Typical Barclay.

I'm still not sold on Moton. I have a friend at a school he interviewed at previously. That school's AD was not impressed at all and the vibe that was given was that he's all flash.

Scoreboard

If 50 wins in 2 years at a former dumpster fire of a program is what flash gets you, gimme somma dat. Personally I think there has to be more to it. Not saying he is the guy we want, but he is a very intriguing possibility.

There is a huge difference between Raleigh and Lynchburg. Distance is only a couple of hours, but in grad school, if we didn't have a match that weekend then I was in Raleigh (except for a brief period of time when I was dating someone at Tech in Blacksburg). That said, Moton would be an excellent hire.

True there is a big difference between L'burg and Raleigh. However NCCU is in Durham, the lower intestine of NC and in a terrible neighborhood. He would not be my first choice based on his limited breadth, albeit very successful experience.

Take a look at Moton's roster at NCCU

http://www.nccueaglepride.com/roster.aspx?path=mbball

Of 14 players (I assume 1 is a walk-on) only 2 were recruited out of American HSs along with 1 from Norway, 3 JUCOs and 8 D1 transfers. Hard to argue with the results, but I'm not sure that approach will work at Liberty. Only 2 players from NC, and one of them is a transfer from FGCU.

ATrain, besides the difference between Raleigh and Durham pointed out by flameshaw, I think we should also note that you and coach Moton are not exactly in the same demographic.

Just heard Moton on a live XM radio interview. He said 2-3 of his best players were hurt for the season. Pretty amazing what he's done considering. He also spoke about growing up on Tobacco row with his grandma in the summers. He doesn't sound like a person that plans on leaving his position in NC anytime soon.

Of course he doesn't. Yes, that could mean he plans on spending the rest of his career there, but I highly doubt it. The guy is way too smart and smooth to give any clue of ambitions for bigger and better things in an interview. He's 40 years old and it looks like he has a huge upside in the coaching profession. Forgive me for doubting that he plans on spending his whole career (or the remaining 7 years on his contract extension for that matter) at NCCU making $250,000.

As far as going 16-0 in conference with key players injured, that is an interesting contrast to DL's results and excuse-making and tells me there is more there than flash.

Speaking of flash, here is his personal website: http://www.levellemoton.com/home.html

I don't mean to be "that guy", but Churchill was never a general. His highest rank was lieutenant colonel, unless you're talking about his time as Secretary of War. And eventually, of course, he became PM.
