(Bonus points: who was Mark Price's back court mate at GT?)
Craig Neal?
If you mean Craig Ehlo you are incorrect in that was from his Cavs days. Or Ron Harper. I just wish they still had those blue uni's!
I think Neal might have been his replacement, but I thought he played with him at GT. He was a PG who didnt score a whole lot but when near the top of the country in assists.

Mike is a very good friend of Dales, Im pretty sure hes got his eyes on a bigger landing spot. Hes been consistent at Wofford, but not great.

If 3 NCAA Tournament appearances in 5 years is consistent but not great, sign me up!

Young isn't leaving Wofford unless it is a major step up. Jerry Richardson is pumping money in there for a brand new facility for their basketball programs. No doubt WC can shell out the $$$ on the level with you guys, if not higher.

There is no question that Young is a Wofford lifer. A quarter century anywhere these days is exceptonally rare. But the suggestion that tiny WC could or would match finances with us is a bit of a stretch. It doesn't matter anyway since it is not happening.

i could see JB throwing some cash at Young, but... if he wins the SoCon this year he will have options, such as S. Carolina when Frank's time is up or Clemson if Brownell leaves for another job... plus I could see them naming the court after Young with 1 more title...

not a bad model to follow though, Wofford promotes from within, a no name guy like Young builds it up from dirt to very respectable nationwide and no BCS level experience on his resume..

I like the idea but maybe a reach with him.

Im not saying Young as its "A good idea" Im saying Young as "He is going to be targeted". Im not saying its a good idea, bad idea, will happen, or wont happen. I am saying that he will be targeted based on having some good info.

I dont think anyone is assuming Im saying one way or another, just clarifying. Wasnt just something I made up. This is not the case with Sutton. So we may say a name because we think its a good idea or someone that would be interested, but I am just clarifying on what I am saying when I bring his (Young's) name up. :)

Back to the topic.

I know Liberty has many means of financing their programs and their income model is ridiculous with the online revenues- but don't haphazardly dismiss Wofford who as of 2013 had an endowment value almost twice the size of Liberty's endowment ($190.2>$101.8 million)

You might also want to consider that Jerry Richardson (Wofford grad & Carolina Panthers owner) could likely make anything he wants happen for his alma mater- again it's not feasible as it pertains to Young but don't mistake the fact that there are many other colleges and universities that have means as well.

Endowments are the old school financial model and not where we are investing our resources. We have five times their endowment in accessable assets. I get that WC is a wealthy small school with a high profile alum who can dump money into a program. That's what kept our athletic department alive for decades before LU Online took off. But we are dealing with completely different economics today.

Wofford isn't taking money out of it's 'endowment' to pay a coach. And he wants to paid from a respect factor more than anything, that's why he was interested in the college of charleston job.

That's not exactly something to brag about..

To the point I was making is that Wofford isn't UNC Asheville- they have some money as well and with all the other Liberty factors, money isn't everything to every candidate.. I get that Liberty has tons of money and no idea what to do with it.. Just because you can buy 18,000 coaches doesn't mean that other colleges and universities can't outcompete Liberty for one. I know a candidate personally who turned down an assistant job at Liberty because he was told that if the university president saw or heard that he or his wife was drinking alcohol, that he would be fired. Let's just not pretend that every coach is going to place themselves or their families in that situation just for a little bit more money.

I agree completely on your latter point. Some are a good fit and others aren't at our school. But economics won't be standing in the way of our next hire. Finding somenone who gets our DNA and is willing to take on a huge turnaround project will be the challenge.

Not bragging, just stating a fact.

Kevin Sutton would be a great hire. Knows the region but can also recruit nationally and internationally. Has a firm Christian background, and has had success everywhere he has ever coached.

The fact that we have already hired a search firm means two things:

1) We've known this was coming for a while.
2) We're likely already talking to potential candidates.

I agree with #1 but not #2.

'Forming a committee' would give more credence to #2 IMO
