Expectations are not very high for our men's basketball team. Compare the men's schedule and the women's schedule. The women played a tough non conference schedule, while men played non D1 schools.
Every sport at LU plays a tough non BSC schedule except one.

It would be better to play Duke or UNC and lose, than play some NAIA school and win.

Our RPI is 348. that is bad. We are only BSC school who has not played anyone ranked in Top 100 RPI.

Why would Duke or UNC want Liberty on their schedules?

If you re read the post I said we had a ' chance' to win, not that we would win. And had we executed that 6 point play drawn up in the TO with 1 second left I think we could have beat them in OT! Play Basketball

RVAparks wrote:Haize my reaction to those DL comments is everyone is banged up this time of year. We, Longwood, had a 20 and 10 guy out as well. PC didn't have Downing when yall played them if I remember correctly. Losing Gielo is terrible but that's just kind of weak.
I'm not saying you are wrong. It would be a stronger argument if we had not lost 20 games last year or actually beaten some teams this year

In reference to the 6 point play drawn up, I saw a 11 point play in high school once. Can't recall all the details, but it involved 2 technical fouls. and I believe 2 three point baskets.

I would never claim to have any knowledge of inter-circle college athletics and how budgeting, hiring and firing works. Nor, do I know much in the way of basketball history, stats, and programs. However, I am a diehard Liberty Athletics Fan/Alumni.

All I see right now is a program of multiple years, getting worse and worse. The captain, who is steering the ship towards the rocks, cannot blame the crew for following orders. Replacing the crew (recruiting) will not help the course set if the captain is just making crew selections, based on his approach to running the ship. Therefore, will someone please fire the captain before our ship falls off the edge of the earth…

All I hear about is how our Athletics is top notch, working to compete at the highest level of College Athletics, through dedication to facilities, budget, schedule and COACHING. We have to ask ourselves, the question…

Would any of us want our MBB program placed on the negotiation table for review, when JFJR is meeting with the college presidents this spring? Multiple years of consistent horrible records are not something to highlight. At a crucial time when every element of our Athletic program is reviewed thoroughly for entry into an FBS conference, our MBB has hit historic lows.

Good post LUinPA.

We must recruit better. that's the root of our problems. It may be the sole reason for our troubles.

It looked like it was part of an in-game promotion. It's a good thing she said yes.
Was it a real proposal then? I have to question the reality of it if it was part of a promotion.

Likely figured out that Longwood doesn't play defense.

It would have to be a new coach to do the recruiting. What prospect would choose our school over any BSC school at this point. Our recruiting will have to compete with other BSC coaches for talent that hasn't gone to the 30 conferences ahead of our own. In terms of mid majors we are low on the totem pole. There will be at least 200 teams who will have an edge on us, so that leaves us with lower level recruits/transfers/JC players that are looking to play D1. Only a Turner Gill type hire might change that equation where the new coach can point to the facilities, the atmosphere, the education, an, hopefully, the future of men's basketball.

We also played Clemson awhile back. But we are going backwards instead of forward. It hasn't been that many years ago that we beat UVA in Charlottesville. Today UVA is ranked #2 in the nation and we are 7-21 and free-falling.

We may need to recruit Nigeria again, to hopefully recapture the magic of those Julius Nwosu and Peter Aluma years.

One of the things Layer has been criticized for is not maintaining relationships with former LU players and other alumni who have influence with potential recruits. I believe Julius, who has been involved with the Nigerian developmental teams, specifically let him know he would like to help, and was pretty much brushed off.

You never brush off people who want to help. They may not have the players you want the very moment they offer to help, but whose to say they don't end up getting talent? Could be like Carlisle School last year and out of nowhere land the Maker brothers.
