Wake Forest had a 3 sport athlete, not too long ago. He played QB, Point Guard and I forget what he did in baseball. I believe his name was Rusty Larue.

you are correct. He ended up playing for the Bulls in the NBA for the 1998 championship team. One of only 4 players in history to beat duke at Cameron indoor all 4 years of his college career. Was also the QB at wake when he was there and apparently broke a bunch of passing records. He was a baseball pitcher.

Langs tweet was interesting the other day. Roccos last recruiting class was atrocious. Woodrum turned out to be the only really good player in the class. I couldnt find then 2010 class online for some reason. In comparison gills first class was loaded with guys like petey abnar and chima. I think our discussion a couple years ago can be revisited. The cupboard really was a bit bare when gill took over.

2012 was a mixed class of Rocco and Gill recruits.

'10 Kenny Scott, Des Rice, Greg Ray, Bobby Partilla, Chris Mayo, Andrew Jauch, Scott Hyland, Gabe Henderson, Nick Sigmon, Jacob Hagen, Mitch Hanson. If that's a bare cupboard I'll take it.

Josh was listed as the only player from '11 but I think Walt Aikens from 11 was a pretty good player.

If you go back all the way to rocco's first 2-3 classes, he had a few "busts", and Coach Gill had a few as well in his first couple classes. I would certainly disagree with the idea that the "cupboard was bare" when Coach Gill came in.

So if were saying 11 players made the cupboard full. Wow. The discussion we had going was the last couple rocco recruiting classes left us in a hole. I never said we didnt have any talent. The last rocco class was terrible and the only decent recruits in the mixed class he had were sommer and lunsford. Thats a huge hole to be left in for a new staff. Im not discounting rocco. What im saying is its clear that he had run out of steam and his last 2 classes were going to be dismal hence the first year for gill was an uphill climb.

Also rocco had nothing to do with walt. That was from coach layer. Thats indisputable.

Walt played football under Rocco, except messing around the one season in Basketball. If true, Layer is a better football recruiter than a Basketball recruiter. 1 for 1 100%

Walt came here because of family connections to Layer.

Walt's dad played for Coach Layer, right? Hoping HCTG returns the favor. Play Basketball

Believe what you want. If you want to give anyone credit for that class, give it to Charlie Skalaski.

I can say with some certainty that Rocco had nothing to do with Petey or DJ. My understanding is that they were both hoping for FBS offers which did not materialize and Gill jumped on them. Yes, Skalaski was involved. He stayed on after getting the job offer with the Jaguars specifically to help TG out with that recruiting class.

Meant to add this to my earlier post, but this is the release for Rocco's 2010 class. there were a few "busts", as with any class, but he brought in some very good players in this one and 2011 that were very strong contributors/all conference performers.

Agreed BJ...

Let's not forget that a number of players left from the '10 and '11 recruiting class for various reasons when HCTG first arrived. Also, I believe, a few players graduated in 4 years and opted not to use their 5th year of eligibility.
