Lang in December: "Liberty won a playoff game, and the talk will shift quickly to whether or not Liberty extends Gill’s contract, a deal that currently runs through 2016. LU athletics director Jeff Barber said last summer that he generally looks at potentially extending a coach’s contract after the third year, and Gill has made more than a compelling argument for himself after leading the Flames to the only postseason run in program history."
What's the latest word on Gill's stay with the Flames? Is an extension in hand?

Last I heard they were working on details of assistant coach contracts. I'm a little out of pocket down here in S.C., but I'll check on it when I get back next week.

A contract extension?

Just six months ago the “short leash” crowd was adamant that Turner Gill had been threatened by his superiors to win in 2014 or lose his job.

Now, they didn’t give any facts but they were just certain about it…..you know, gut-feeling stuff….kind of like the UVA rape story…….the actual facts of the alleged incident don’t matter because everybody knows that across the US that 25% of all college girls get sexually assaulted every year. Yeah, right.

Turner Gill was 14-9 his first two seasons winning two league titles……yeah, buddy, that’s head chopping results.

No matter, though. The cut throats in Administration (after much prayer, of course) and at a time when Liberty University is experiencing unprecedented growth across the board, supposedly communicated to the coach they hired after numerous recommendations and a national search, “It’s contract year #3, Turner. Get us into the Playoffs or look for a job somewhere else!” And then after an awkward silence, a cheery voice told him, “Have a nice day! God bless you!”

Sound stupid? It should because the notion that Turner Gill was threatened with his job before the 2014 season is beyond stupid. Sorry, short-leashers, I don’t believe you. Please prove that the conversation above nor anything akin to it has ever taken place. Gut-feelings aren’t facts. They are usually products of a vivid imagination and/or a poor diet.

Do some successful coaches after two years get told that year #3 is make or break for them? Of course, some do, but mainly in the professional ranks and certainly not at a unique school like Liberty University at this time in its development. Portraying that LU Athletics is run similar to the Brooklyn Nets would be silly. Jerry Jr. doesn’t even speak Russian.

The Administration at LU was thrilled to hire Turner Gill in 2011. His job was safe in August 2014. His job is safer today. He deserves to be rewarded for his success thus far. In the words of Deion Sanders, “Pay that man!”

If all that is true, (which I don't believe it is), then there's a house cleaning coming in Vines Center.

I think Coach Gill and all of the staff should be given a raise, and Coach Gill's contract extended.

TL;DR: Kiwon is calling out SuperJon, BJWilliams, bluejacket and jcmanson to back up positions they took back in August. You can begin reading/skimming at this point:

He felt pressure because there was pressure. He did what successful coaches do: he stepped up and won the games he needed to win.

The gap between an extension and a lame-duck can be as small as a blocked field goal sometimes.

kiwon is off his rocker.

Folks, any contract extension will be signed by both parties. In this case, the ball isn't entirely in Liberty's court. The program hasn't exactly made a rush to the FBS level. I wouldn't be surprised if many in the program, and fans as well, would have thought we'd have a firm grip on our ascension to the FBS by now.

Anyway, a friend pointed out that "Gill's $6.3M (what he received from Kansas for his last three years, which, by the way, that third year would have been this year) came out to be nearly $2.8M per year the last three years when you combine what Kansas gave him for these past three years and what Liberty gave him."

Now, Gill will only be making LU money, which was reported to be about $680K per year on another thread that linked a credible source.

So let's leave the possibility that Gill may not even want the extension. After five years, he can pursue FBS jobs and money on his own if Liberty is still stuck in the Big South for whatever reason.

And that's why I posed the original question.

I was happy as a state employee, until the feds started hiring again. Money talk$, as does the ability to move your career in an upward direction.

and to be honest wasn't LU the fallback only after he could'nt get the Auburn Job, because of not his coaching ability, but other extinuating factors.

With no FBS jump looming, there is a chance he could jump after next year if we have another playoff run.

With that said, does he believe in the mission and like being able to be himself here enough to give up the money of a bigger program? We've seen that with people all throughout Liberty. Gill could be in that category.

I'm sure Gill is set financially for the rest of his life and that of his children’s. I don't think money is what drives Coach Gill. I believe he is a man of substance and he enjoys coaching and mentoring young men through Christ teachings. The one factor that may drive him away from LU is his desire to succeed at the highest level of college football. We all know he is a competitor and if he leaves it is to prove to himself and his doubters that he can get it done at the FBS level.

It was great seeing Coach Gill and his wife at the basketball game last night, and they were even sitting in the general admission, non-padded seats!

I love what Gills done and hope he stays a long time!!! But if and when he does go else where maybe this guy Autry Denson will be worth a look!?!? I came across this article looking for new info about our basketball hiring situation. Check this guy out!!! He's already enrolled At liberty Siminar online and is the running back Coach for Notre Dame!!!!!! Maybe Gill would want to add him to his staf!?!? I thought it was pretty cool. He certainly would fit the Liberty Mold.
