Even if he's a good coach, and even if he's completely vindicated from the BSU stuff, I don't believe a Christian university in the South with a strongly Baltist background wants all the baggage such a her would present. The racism allegations would be the story for months. Does that help the program and give it the jolt you describe? I imagine the same thinking is going on in the minds of many admins who have passed on him. He's a pariah now, and he is mostly to blame for that, even if he is innocent of the crimes that went on there.
Only because after I said it, I had not even known about all the DRAMA he had went thru, until it was brought to light. Then after that it seemed it went straight to defense mode to validate the reason I had just thrown his name out there, some were saying he was so bad, and tried to point out things, then I was looking to refute some of those things, no other reason.

You then say his hire with his baggage, I can't see it being no more than when all the talk was about HCTG coming from Kansas and his leaving there. Winning cures all of that, and for one I think he wouldn't have to worry about starting off with only 5 ball players or coming into possible academic issues. But I do hear what your saying.

You say the racism allegations would be the story, well EVERYONE and there brother is so for LU giving people second chances, this and that why not. Everything you say may be true, but to say he is the blame for some of the circumstances is a bit antagonistic. Im not saying he was all right or all wrong. If I was the A.D. I would reach out to him and others about the job. I would possibly hire him, you and others wouldn't. I agree with the call to pass on 2nd down based on NE and the goalline front, others say still run. I like colorful(loud) uniforms, others don't. See my point?
Do you even read what you write? In one sentence you say to blame him for SOME of the circumstances is antagonistic. Then in the next sentence you say he wasn't ALL right or ALL wrong. Which is it?
As for paying $200k that's not a big deal. It was most likely less expensive than going to court and the cost of negative PR. Jason Whitlock IS an alum of BSU, so unlike Wilbon, he has a better grasp of the environment at the School. I would give his account more credence than someone with no experience there.
Finally, the baggage that Gill brought with him is EXACTLY the type of baggage LU wants.

I was talking from the standpoint that people said he was a bad coach, not actually that he had been in some sort of trouble. I had read about his time at Buffalo the one winning season the 2 years at KU, that type stuff. Nothing really off the cuff. I never had a problem with the man myself, I was only pointing out how people were jumping off cliffs saying it was bad hire.

That's a lot different than saying he has 'baggage'

OK, bad choice of words, when I was trying to make my analogy.

why is dot a great hire? she had virtually zero coaching experience. great player for sure. zero experience, zero results.

I think we can mostly agree that when JB makes the new hire that there will rightfully be a lot of scrutiny. The Layer hire was absolutely awful and the publicity of that abysmal hire will not make it any easier on the university. If JB decides on hiring some older head coach on the way down from a power conference, then I will begin to seriously question his competence in regards to making hires. Besides this year, the Gill hire is not the greatest thing in the world, and I don't think we can definitively make a judgment on the Richardson hire until year 3 or so. There are a lot of examples of schools I can think of that made awful decisions following astounding success. George Mason is the prime example of what NOT TO DO after a Final Four run (Resulting in the public shaming and forced retirement of former GMU AD Tom O'Connor this past year). USC has made some pretty awful decisions in regards to AD choices post an FBS National Championship as well.

Gill hire was always better than the Richardson hire, IMO. Don't see where the Gill hire was questionable.

Go meet Dot. Come back here afterwords. She's a homerun.

Let's get one thing straight real quick like, DON'T say that I did something that I did not do. DO NOT put words in my mouth. I NEVER questioned the GILL hire, and there were no false assumptions of mines to base it off of. We can disagree all day but don't ever try and put words in my mouth.

Again' do you even read what you write?

You compared the baggage that Thompson would bring in to that of Gill. When it was pointed out that if Gill brought in any baggage from Kansas, that was the type of baggage LU would want, you said you were wrong. So you went of on a tangent based on a false assumption.

Then you assume my 'false assumption' comment had specifically to do with HCTG, which was false. Ergo, false assumption.

Of course, it all started with your false assumption that people on this board didn't think LU should have uniforms that had 'swag' when the reality was/is the opposition was to your specific suggestion of silver on grey uniforms.

So no one is putting words in your mouth. You already put them there yourself

I guess we can agree that not all collefe alternate uniforms in "black" look good but when they are in the grey/silver color combo alot better, at least IMO. It can be done, but then again, I think you have to be willing to go outside the box a little and be somewhat creative with it.

I would like to throw my name out for consideration. Here are my qualifications:

1. I don't have a job.
2. I don't know anything about basketball. (Why can't you tackle the guy with the ball?)
3. I was the RA for the MBB Dorm.
4. I slept at a Holiday Inn Express once.
5. I will hire PH to handle all "pharmaceutical" needs.

That is all.
