I was just on the Big South Website, and it looks like the women's basketball team is still competing in the Big South. Why are they still competing in the BS, and why aren't the men?

When Birmingham-Southern decided to drop down to D-III, the NCAA allowed current players to transfer without sitting out for a year. Mass defections from both the men's basketball and baseball team forced Birmingham-Southern to not be able to field teams this year.

Edit: That is my understanding of the situation down there. If anyone else has any other information, or would like to dismiss my post, please do so in order to let everyone know what happened.

That is correct. This is BSC's last year in the Big South, but they decided not to field teams in men's basketball and baseball due to the mass transfers that happened after the decision.

The Birmingham Southern administrators apparently didn't expect the mass exodus. Rather than cover the expenses of a lame duck team with a bunch of walk-ons, they made the right call. I'm just glad they kept the non-revenue sports intact (particularly in softball that needed them for auto bid).
