We've never won inside Willett Hall no matter who the coach was (RD, JM, RM or DL). I am positive that the Curse of the Wood will not be broken this year.

If DL does something that no other coach has been able to do, thats enough to give him a 4 year extension, right?

Unless he wins the national championship this year, no. I am also positive members of the Farmville community will turn out to see their team beat the team from the bigger city down the road...

I usually attend this game because I wanted to be in the house when Liberty finally wins in Willet Hall. It wouldn't surprise me if this is the year since I will be tucked away safely in the CAA calling the Elon/James Madison game (8 PM American Sports Network - Cheap Plug)

Wouldn't surprise me if Longwood wins in a blowout. If Liberty can't score against the Lancers they won't score against anyone they play - Longwood has the nation's 330rd ranked defense according to Pomeroy.

Too bad most here have checked out on this team. I think they break the streak(s) (willet hall losing and current losing) this weekend. It is discouraging but I'm not giving up on the team or coach.

I have thought for the past week or so, that we will win at Longwood. If we can hold the ball, and not have too many TOs, I see a 56-55 win, or something like that. Maybe 52-50.

But I find it sad that most have quit on them. Especially with so much season left.

A lot of season is left, but I have seen nothing that would indicate we can turn it around. We have no go to player that can carry the team. No consistent shooters. No nothing.

I haven't quit, just lowered my expectations for winning

At this point, the old Liberty motto of 'We almost won' would be celebrated. But we arent even that competitive!
If this team showed signs that they were close to turning it around, and that once Gielo came back they'd hit on all cylinders, you'd have a lot of people still holding out hope
But this team has not shown any signs of that.

We still sucked, even with Gielo. The win over UD is our best this season and was probably the last time we looked good on the court. And the way the Hens are playing this year that win looks worse with every game they play.

Too bad some take zero pride in our basketball team and refuse to admit that this team is awful and we should be/expect better.

You might want to do some research or pick on someone else. I take great pride in all LU programs and support them with all I've got. I want all of them to success at the highest level possible. And I am surely disappointed and frustrated at where the team is right now.

The difference is that I see no reason to: talk of firing any coach while they are still leading a team of student athletes mid season, make attacks on the coach or players so negative or personal, call for the AD's head if he doesn't fire the coach, or generally get up in arms irrational before we know the final results of the season.

I also factor in some things some here tend to ignore: the coach's reputation within the industry, the positive accomplishments he's achieved here, injuries, defections for homesickness and other, the can we get a better coach factor, his current contract, and the difficulty in college bball recruiting especially at LU. It's reality especially in the AAU age.

Say what you want, but that is where I'm at. I will support JB in whatever he decides, but I actually understand what a tough decision it really will be......after the season.

Since you brought up previous coaching records, at Colorado State, Layer finished with a 103-106 overall record. CSU only made the tournament once, in Layer's 4th year, and finished in the lower half of the Mountain West every year after that.

I think Layer is a great guy and a great assistant on any team and was a great head coach at the DIVISION II LEVEL (which is a different animal from Division I)...but the facts show he has not been able to succeed as a head coach at Division I and it appears time for someone else to take the helm of this program.

Why do we need to wait until we know what the final results of the season will be? 4 out of his previous 5 years it's been the same thing, and it's only getting worse. "Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it."

You can say all of that, but when you deflect all of our problems to injuries, homesickness and recruiting (which actually should be an advantage for us compared to most of the Big South), it shows your lack of pride for our basketball team.

I'll give you the injury argument once or twice, but when it is a problem for six seasons, you have give a more creative excuse.

And by the way, it's not like we're competitive and just missing the tournament. We are absolutely awful. We are the worst team in one of the worst conferences in the country. If we were even remotely relevant, I'd hear you out but we are terrible...again. It's been six years. At some point, Layer has to take responsibility. Our basketball team is terrible because of Layer.

What previous success are you speaking of Rooster? The Tournament run where we were a joke because our record was the 2nd worst in tournament history?
I'll give you injuries, but that's only if in the prior breath saying 'Man, we are so close. When X returns we will really be good'. We aren't there yet.
About 15 years ago your arguments would have fit the situation to a T. But they aren't very valid in our current predicament

I feel like the one dude trying to stop an angry mob from killing someone. He usually gets trampled or killed in the movies. im not going to be able to soften any of you guys opinions. The funny thing is, when I'm at the games most fans opinions are much softer and closer to mine. So I think I'm out of these discussions, aka irrational blather. One more thing, be careful with those pitchforks, you'll put an eye out.

I don't know what it is. Maybe he works them too hard in training or practice? I just know that when something happens that consistently, it usually isn't a coincidence.
