Actually recently did leave my job to almost double my salary (75% pay raise).

I don't fault McKay for doing it and never have. Also, we did win the Big South under Layer...did not do that under McKay. I believe bonuses are based on conference (regular season and/or tournament) championships, not W/L record.

I think it's pretty safe to say when that contract expired he would have received an increase from LU.
Totally disagree. That is the Liberty Way. When someone asks for a raise they usually don't get it. The. They are replaced by someone who will be paid more than what the previous person was asking for even with a raise
That is a long long list

if the demand is there then we could at least make a run at him.

Yes, one can recruit and did a decent job coaching, but all an opposing coach who is recruiting the same kid has to say is "Look what happened last time he was there. You wont be playing for him for long"

Although I agree that McKay would be a better option, Id rather take the field. IF (strong If) Barber can figure out what is important for a MBB coach at Liberty (which I have concerns about seeing how things have gone), we could have a much better coach that is in it for the long haul.

You guys amaze me. Regardless of "if he meant to screw Liberty or not", he did. If there is 1 positive thing you can say about Dale it is that he has stuck it out through adversity (I mean, he didnt right the ship, and it is easy to stick through with his paycheck, but he did). McKay is not that guy. What happens when his best player leaves again? What happens if his talent isnt good and he has a bad season? As far as Im concerned, we dodged a bullet when he decided to leave because of the kind of person he is to run away when times got tough. We had a roster full of guys and a short list of recruits that didnt run away, but he did. Great "leadership" qualities there.
this is laughable..everyone on this board is taking another job at an ACC school that is paying double of what you are currently making..yall are hypocrites..essentially if a coach leaves a school to take another job then he is screwing the school right?
Who Said they werent taking that opportunity? All I am saying is that it was more money, a great opportunity, etc. but he left the program in a bad place. Everyone agrees with that. All we are saying is that when things got tough, he got going. Look at his resume, its always been that way. That is not the kind of guy that I want as a leader of my team. By your standards, if we pay him more, he should come here and since Liberty is last in RPI, anyone that comes along to offer more money he should take that deal too. Its fine if you feel that way, but I want a long-term solution to the problem that we have here. Duke's football coach just turned down the Michigan job, more money and better football, nothing wrong with having a vision through the difficult times. I dont think he had the intent of "Screwing us", but he did. Not because he left for a "better opportunity", but because of how he did it and the situation that he left the program in. Talk to some guys on that team and see how they felt about being left high and dry. All these kids he sold a vision to, they bought in to, and he took that vision up the street. There were a group of players that could have transferred or gotten out of their commitments to go play at "better schools", but they didnt. I want a coach with that attitude. I don't expect anyone to turn down the Duke job, but at least do something to put the fire out instead of putting gasoline on it.

no when he got offered a much better paying job in the freaking ACC he left...if we would have paid him what he was worth and bonused him after he set a school record he might have been more inclined to stay..regarldess i think going after him would be a good thing

Honestly, what did he do that was so awesome that we would beg him to come back? Did he get us to the Tourney? Did he have a group of players drafted? Honestly, respectfully, I just dont understand it. Isn't there more/better talent out there? He brought in 1 guy that was obviously ACC talent and Jesse Sanders. He brought in more busts too. The majority of the talent he coached were left over players (I am not going further down that path on purpose).

If the demand is there? Demand from who? A message board full of people who have no clue what they're talking about? Yeah. We are really going to influence Jeff.

If a legit AD considers a head coaching change because of a petition with about 20 names on it... we need a new AD.

The path you are advocating has a lot more to do with it than basketball. The basketball portion of it is simple. Even the business side isn't rocket science, as you have clearly delineated. What you can't seem to understand are the politics involved. Those are what render this impossible, and what makes you look like a buffoon for suggesting.

Wow JK that was a little harsh. I don't think it is beyond the possibility. NOBODY thought LeBron would be welcomed back at Cleveland based on the reaction that region had when he left but yet there he is in the "Same ol place that we laughed about" (Mr. Kotter. Old guys will get that reference).

I am friends with Ritchie and think he would consider coming back. However I feel like Jeff is probably going to move in another direction. My guess would be that he would go after and be able to land someone with a lot of passion, reputation for turning programs around and is known on a national level at least in the coaching world.

Personally I would love to see Jason Allison get a chance. The more years that go by, the more he is growing as a coach, recruiter etc. the more likely candidate he is becoming. He would certainly bring in really good players. He did it at VMI he could do it at Liberty. He would bring in a veteran associate HC to help with the other components of running a program. I hate to engage in this sort of conversation while we still have a coach but I had to add my two cents.

THIS!!!!!

Amen. Amen. Amen. Ill sign that petition. Bring it here. Now.

Please?

Pretty Please?

Honestly, I love the idea of a Liberty Alum in the drivers seat. Understands the school. Loves the school... and as I said before, wont take off when opportunities come, when times get better, and he is young and willing.

Personally, I'd be on board with that...its probably gonna take a pretty hefty consortium of fans, former players, flames club donors, etc. for that to happen though (take that 30 number that I said was a good start, and add 370 to it...minimum).

I used the word buffoon because it is funny. If I offended, my bad.

Scar, you're accurate. Ritchie might come back, but he's never going to get asked.

I wouldn't mind Jason.

Naturally. I dont know what itd honestly take, but I doubt a bunch of keyboard jockeys in locations ranging from offices to basements and any number of places in between, are going to be the catalysts for any change when it comes

Jesse Sanders! If a team he coached played with half the heart he did . . . . . McKay may be a better coach now than before having worked with Tony Bennett's system. His system really didn't work. In his own words, "( pass to me, shoot the three, play no D, . . . we can't even guard this podium" (he was speaking from).

bj while we might just be about 30 people...we are probably about the only 30 people who are liberty basketball fanatics so in my opinion i think we do have a very miniscule influence on things..barber reads this more than you think
