We've lost over 60 games in 3 years. So there's no telling

SCAR wrote:To me worse than having an irate fan base is having an apathetic one. I know football is in the midst of an historic run but the lack of fans in the seats at Vines is just not good. Not to mention the lack of posters in the Men's Hoops forum on here especially during games. I did a game at Asheville last weekend over thanksgiving break and the students weren't in town but there was a decent crowd. Some of that was due to Charlotte coming into town and some due to Rowsey being must see entertainment for that city. It is very disappointing to tune in to MASN and see what took place. Especially after watching VCU go toe to toe with Virginia in Siegel Center. That is what college basketball atmospheres are supposed to be like. I wish that were the Vines Center.

Even when the MBB's team was winning (which wasn't a very long stretch), the Vines Center is dead. Basketball just isn't important on campus and hasn't been in years. Even the run to the NCAA tournament a few years ago happened off campus. There hasn't been anything worth celebrating at the Vines Center in awhile.

Randy Dunton? He was the last coach to win a men's bball championship in the Vines.

Well at this point I don't see myself going back to watch this team play in person. So, so, SOOOOO Disappointing. I was hoping we would see a vastly improved team based on what I saw in preseason practices. Big South is going to be tough this year. There are about 8 teams right now that seem to be better than Liberty out of the gate. Presby and Longwood are probably the only ones that less. There is still a lot of season left but it just doesn't look good when Morgan State and St. Francis get wins over our team.

The beautiful arena, the HD production, the nice uniforms even the great floor and then the team comes out and can't score points against barely a division 1 team in St. Francis. It is hard to watch as a fan, as a former, player, coach and broadcaster. I feel really bad for Dale because I like him so much and I really want this staff to succeed. This program may be at an ALL-TIME LOW.

The good thing we learned from that experience is that basketball can be turned around in one season...but I'm not sure the current coach is the guy to do it.

I didn't want to see you anyways since you keep misremembering my UD shirt!

I got you next time man (its what Alston used to say to me after he scored over 3 guys, one of which left me to go guard him and I was standing wide open waiting for a pass). Seriously though, text me your address. I will call Monte' tomorrow and get one sent to you. Better yet, my nephew works at UD now so I know I'm going to be getting some gear from him the next time I see him.

Apathetic is the perfect word. I haven't attended a game this year and I wont. The product is unwatchable and I'm not going to make an hour drive to watch loss after loss and BORING on top of that. I'll save my time for football and baseball.

As for the bball program, P.T.P.

This is exactly where I'm at. I absolutely love Dale and want him to be a part of our program. You can't get a better fit and better guy for Liberty athletics than Dale Layer. The production just hasn't been there though.

I think you're correct PH...men's basketball seems to be the only program that hasn't had that shot of jet fuel like the other programs have

It falls back on recruiting. we haven't recruited enough D1 caliber players who can put ball in the basket. Too many "role type" players, not enough real basketball players.

The basketball program is a disgrace.

And how many more white suburban kids do we need to recruit? Or is praying at the end of every loss the only thing that really matters?

I agree that we are "too white". We look more like a Division III team than a D1 team.

We play a very weak schedule. we should be winning more games.

I don't care if we have to recruit green kids from Mars, just get some recruits that can play and fit in with Liberty's culture no matter the amount of melanin in one's skin.
