my mom lives half an hour from villanova. this Wednesday i broke my right arm (am right handed), and now i cant drive :(. if i hadnt, idve been in harissonburg today, that's for sure. if someone can pick me up from asheville nc, and go to the game with me, they can stay with me at my moms house, and ill pay for gas money.

heck, even if you cant come get me, send me a pm and i'll talk to her about maybe letting some flames fams stay there.

also typing left handed is really hard.

I have explored all my options and simply can't justify the travel costs. It is killing me to not be there. All I can do is hope that we win and Sam pulls the upset on the other side of the bracket.

This is my one chance to go to a playoff game this season, and I think I'll be stuck at LaHaye Ice Center running camera, possibly during the game. Sometimes this student streaming thing gets in the way of being a student.

Does the train stop at the stadium? You are probably looking at another $100 or more in cab fares and then unless there is a train going back that night a hotel room as well.

I don't know where the stadium is in relation to the train stops. IMO, it would be worth it to avoid wear and tear in my car and driving around DC/Baltimore etc. I would imagine there is a Public Transit option once you get to Philly that would make it less expensive than a cab. But I guess I'm still young enough to have a sense of adventure :D

For one person, it is no doubt cheaper than the actual cost (with depreciation) of taking your car. Carpool with 2 or more and the reverse would be true.

Agreed. That's why I was throwing it out as an option. But having a small group on a train, not having to worry about leg room, stopping, falling asleep while driving etc is tough to put a price on.

I am shocked that Medic has yet to chime in considering that this game is practically in his backyard.

yeah midnighters all weekend so I'm being a vampire this week

PS: thx to SJ for BLOWING THE SURPRISE, course I watched the replay anyway.

really hoping to be able to go but the work situation is NOT good right now: holidays are bad in my biz

for anybody coming up be aware that nova isnt actually in the city its in Delaware County on the Main line.

(think really rich white people)

but there is public transportation - SEPTA regional rails run til @ 0200 and if you do go into the city the buses and subways make it pretty easy to get around.

cabs are prevalent but expensive. I'd take the trains, esp since Villanova has a regional rail station and a high speed line close

just fyi, Villanova is on what is called the "Main Line". Not Philadelphia. Trust me, people from Villanova will tell you that.

If your flying into PHL, and rent a car, take the Blue Route (476) and it dumps you at 'Nova. If taking the train (Septa) once you get to Philadelphia. Take the train 30th street station west to Nova.

any other tidbits I can give let me know

I suspect an old friend who has lost his password. How many LU posters with A&M ties are pastors in Greater Philly? But welcome back!

I lost my password and changed my email address too but I'll be there on Saturday. If I can figure out how to upload photos here, I'll send some along.

If you are looking for an adventure in Philly and want a REAL Cheesesteak go to my old neighborhood to Bill Paganos. 77th and Ogontz Ave near Cheltenham PA. Best in the city. I heard they had one closer to downtown on Spring Garden street near the Art Museum but it may have closed. Geno's and Pats are way down in South Philly. There is a place on South Street called Ishkabibbles too that I endorse. I think there is one next to Pats and Genos too. There is a place near City Line Ave and Belmont Ave called Mama's. I haven't been there in 20 plus years but it was the only Cheesesteak that I didn't finish in one sitting.

Paganos is a big, big meal. I always get the Triple Cheesesteak but they are all good. Triple has whiz, provolone and American. Fried onions...YUM! It's kind of a Soup Nazi situation though...Stay to the right just inside the door to order steaks. Hoagies you go to the far end of the store. Ordering in the wrong line will get you clowned there pretty badly.

Maybe you and Medic can give some good suggestions on Hoagies and Cheesesteaks in the burbs. Lee's Hoagie House is the only one that comes to mind and I'm not sure if they are even out on the Main Line. Wish I could go this weekend but with my basketball travel schedule, I don't think I could get a pass to this one. I'll be in Richmond watching VCU host UVA I think.

For those attending the game, we have good/bad news regarding the weather. The temperature forecast has steadily gone up this week. I’ve seen temps as high as 56 degrees on Saturday. Appears it shoudl rain all day however. Expect .2 inch of rain Saturday afternoon. Not sure how that will help/hurt either team.
Please plan to arrive plenty early due to parking concerns. Villanova MBB is playing a home game against cross town rival St Joseph’s at 1:00 PM. Parking will be at a premium. As PA Medic mentioned, Villanova is not actually in Philadelphia. Think very upscale neighborhood in case you have to walk to find parking (and I agree with his food choices).
Villanova is really pushing the sports double header theme to their fans. They are using LU’s 18 bus caravan to drum up student support. This is the first game of the year where students will have to purchase tickets. They have publicly asked for donations to underwrite giving tickets to students for free. I read one plea where they do not want to look bad with everybody wearing red.
Parking across the street from the stadium in the East Main lot is $20/car. The adjacent West Main lot is $10/car. Parking at the Law School is free but that’s on the other side of campus.
