Bad? Probably an early qualifier for understatement of the century

Did you mean our turnovers and THEIR shooting %? Because we shot 43% and 38% from 3, which is pretty ordinary. They actually only had 2 less turnovers than we did and we outrebounded them 31-26. VT won with superior shooting, as in 63 and 53. How much of that was bad D and how much was hot shooting? I'd say some of both, but they clearly got too many good looks.

Expectations are low for the Hokies this year, but it's too early to say they are awful. They have clearly upgraded at the HC position, and his recruiting prowess is already bearing some fruit. They have some talent, but not much in the way of size or experience.

Watching Buzz coach was a real treat. I have never been to a game where a coach had a better demeanor. He was brilliant. Quick observations of the positive:

1) we had the two most athletic guys on the floor, (andoh and smith)
2) our offense wasnt iso based , and we created for others more often than not
3) we are so much deeper than we have been in 10 years ( Talbert was in uniform, and judging by warm ups, he is easily in the coversation of most athletic

Negatives

1) no real ball handler, Layer yanked Moller (sp?) a few times after bad dribbling turnovers.
2) I think dale goes to his bench too often, maybe its early and hes giving guys a chance ?
3) Johnson is either the best or worst player on the floor, I dont see much consistency yet.

Overall, I am pleased so far this season, and I am thrilled we didnt yank Layer when all the talking heads (you guys) were calling for his job the last few years. He has built something special, and Im hoping it translates to a nice Big South Showing this year. (Top 3)

Depends on what type of 'Special'. Cinderella special or short bus special

High Point, CSU, Winthrop, and Coastal look pretty good. Other than that, I think we're right there. It's still very early though.

We were predicted 9th, and the board outlook was even worse than that the last couple months, so maybe special is the right word.

Probably because we lost over 60 games the last 3 years :dontgetit

But I was early in my 'addition by subtraction' comment. It's still way tooooo early. We beat a down Delaware team and lost to a horrible VT team. And beat some guy named Randolph

Yes, their shooting percentage. But I would like to see our shooting percentage be a little higher too (at least 45% from 2; 40% from 3).

Both teams turned the ball over way too much.

I can't say anything about open looks since I didn't see the game.

Also a negative I forgot to mention.

Andrew Smith hasnt found himself offensively, He gets lots of touches at the top of the key, but he doesnt get many touches in places he can be affective.

-Talbert may not be as athletic as Smith or Andoh, but not by that much, and I would say he is more skilled.

-Most coaches go 10-12 deep in the first few games, especially with this many new players. You make a lot of evaluations in practice, but you want to see how everyone performs under the bright lights. 5 or 6 games in you see the rotation start to get shorter.

-Retic will be our primary ball handler most games. His playing so little against VT due to fouls hurt us a lot.

-Which Johnson?

He did, but he also made plays. He gets a bit out of control and force things sometimes, but we are better with him in there.

Don't we have 2 Johnsons--James & Theo?

And, according to the box score, only 5,586 in attendance at a university that has over 29,000 students!
