RING OF FIRE...

This should be our song. The students could sing along. I don't know of another college using it.

I know it, but I don't know how many other students know it. If we're going to start a new tradition now, we need a song students would actually know the words to.

They play this song at the baseball games. I'm not sure who picks the music for baseball.

It's talking about fire the entire song and Alan York says "Light 'em up" when he calls a touchdown. Along with all of the lyrical connections LU seems to love their Fall Out Boy, I've heard "Centuries" at every home game I've been to.
Really like this song and idea for the team entering the stadium. I also like the idea of someone carrying a flame into the stadium, maybe dotting the I in Liberty. I know that is similar to OSU, but still like it. Would like to see something similar to that become a tradition ie. FSU lance at midfield, USC horse, Air Force falcon flying around the stadium, etc.
BTW, I am not criticizing anyone or anything about the current game atmosphere, it is awesome. But we need to build on the current foundation.

I had an idea at one time to have a fire pit that a group of students could light to start each game. My idea was to have dorms compete throughout the week to display the most school spirit, and at convo on Friday before every home game, JFLJR would pick a winner. The winning dorm would have the opportunity to decorate the pit Friday night, and to light the pit w/ Sparky when the team runs out.

Probably a stupid idea but I think it would be a pretty cool tradition and another way to integrate the students w/ pre-game.

Corny corny corny.
HMO and I both claim idea #2 as our own--and it's a GREAT idea!

Which you stole from me......

I think it's a great idea at the beginning of the game. We need SOMETHIG to call our own

Not that anyone is taking a poll, but I like both the Liberty bell and fire pit ideas. The fire pit particularly sounds like a great idea. That's something that would unique and also relates to our FLAMES name.

We had a discussion of something similar to this right after Doc's passing. At the time we talked about before every home game having a different respected alumni light a hand held torch from the one that is always lit at Doc's gravesite, carry it to the stadium and light a giant olympic style torch at the stadium. It would take the place of the raising of the "71" flag we have now, which is pretty meh IMHO.

Ring of Fire is actually too uptempo for the band.

I like this idea a lot, especially since it was mine initially.:) However, maybe a combination of this and the fire pit would be good. Maybe it could be incorporated with Gilville as well ie. light a fire Friday night and keep it going all night, transfer from there to a fire pit or similar. We do need something unique for sure.

That would be great.

I don't think there is any arguing against our game-day being one of the most professional in FCS, possibly even FBS. But I do think what most of us feel is missing is something to call our own. Auburn flies an eagle of their stadium. LSU has a live tiger. Georgia Tech has the Ramblin Wreck. Wake Forest's Demon Deacon rides out on a motorcycle. FSU has Osceola and Renegade. Wisconsin possibly has the craziest start to a 4th quarter. Obviously those are big programs but those are just a few examples. If you go to a home game of any the schools mentioned above, you will absolutely see those things happen, and they are so unique. Most of what makes college football so unique is the traditions (similar to what makes baseball so unique is history and stadiums). When you compare those examples to us running out of the tunnel to 2001, we seem so FCS.

Liberty has done a great job the past ten years of being an FCS school that has the feel of an FBS school. Most of that has led to us being FBS ready. Having a pre-game or in-game tradition won't put us in a conference obviously. But I think we can agree we should have some sort of tradition that other schools and fans will always remember.

^Auburn Eagle flight. I have also heard that Georgia Southern did something similar at graduation. I don't know if they have the same game-day tradition.

One more and I know you've seen this one but I still get goosebumps. It's not great because of Virginia Tech's play really, or the come from behind win. What makes this great is Virginia Tech's tradition and their fan's reaction to it. When those two factors are in sync as well as they are here, you're going to create a tradition unlike any other.
