What I find amazing is that when the refs blow a call, which I know we are all human, they hate to see how bad it was on the big board. On the offensive PI against Peterson, after he made the call the back judge and the side judge look up at the board see that it maybe wasnt what he thought, sort of look at each other shrug shoulders, with like an oops, my bad sort of thing. There was no extension from Petey on that so I really didnt see how he made the call.

I have been critical of the offense and not finding a consistent second option to Petey. Well, it looks as if Shells is def trying to prove that theory wrong, with another solid game. Carrington Mosely, even tho he did get smacked in the mouth on that backside blitz looks to be a real real big back that does bring the boom, im sure he felt good getting his first college action.

When Gabe threw the pass on the option for a TD (that was called back due to a penalty), I thought of Super's earlier comment--let the former high school QB Gabe throw that pass in the option. And it worked!

And I realize that it was a small sample size, but Mosley looked like the second coming of Rashad Jennings!

I got to follow Mosley in high school and he has a very similar skill set and could be that second back to take some of the load off DJ these last 4 games with Macon out

Between Mosely and Kaigler, one of the two will def have to start shouldering some of the load, in order for the run game to continue to be successful.

Great game yesterday, offensive was dominant, defense I can't even think of a word to describe how good they were and special teams did their job. The crowd was amazing, I didn't expect that at all, even with family weekend. And does anyone know why the G-W assistant coaches had their hands up the whole game? I've never seen coaches do that and I was wondering what it meant.

GW is just a bad team. However, we did play very well on both sides of the ball. Anytime you throw a shutout against any FCS team, it is a very good day. Having Sigmon back in the middle, made a huge difference. It is going to take an even better game to beat CCU on the road, but we are capable. Just have to avoid a WTF game until we meet at the beach. BTW, I would like to see Masha run some of the option in that game. The Chickens didn't defend it very well yesterday against CSU.

How did we draw 20,000 for Gardner Webb?? Wow.

I am encouraged by everything about today.
Family Weekend.

We have had family weekend in the past and it never has given us a homecoming type bump in attendance. It's good to see
I do know that advanced tickets sales were higher than Homecoming this year. Only missed the record by about 600 people. The left student section ( baptist side to my back) never had more than 5 or 6 students. If they can pack that side out, it could become a consistent 19k plus crowd. The home side was fantastic. Very encouraged to see what is happening.

BJWilliams wrote:My grades for the week:

Offense: A. Despite losing a couple touchdowns to penalties, including that sweet pass play from Henderson to Peterson (I am surprised they haven't tried that before today), the offense played well and dominated as expected. DJ is starting to show wear from being the feature back at only 185 pounds and the foot/ankle thing is worth monitoring but not something that I would blame on the coaches necessarily

Defense: A. Where was this group the last three games? After getting lit up like the 4th of July and Memorial Day put together, the boys up front practically lived in the Gardner Webb backfield and the team that scored 47 last week never even crossed the plus 20 yard line during the game. Kenny Scott dominated Kenny Cook the week after he went for 251 against VMI. Jacob Hagen didnt get his name called tonight which was unusual but on a night when everybody contributed, not necessarily a bad thing

Special Teams: C+. Lunsford hit all his kicks, including breaking one of the oldest football records at the school. Dakota Kelly did a solid job returning punts and really the only "mistake" was Isaac Brown slipping on the one kick. Trey Turner is becoming a real big weapon for us after punter was a major question mark heading into the season
Here is my take

Offense B: Dj and Dante were bright spots. Dexter Herman had two big penalties. Flames left 14 points off the board in the 1st half. Also, Woodrum was not sharp. Lang summed it up nicely in the postgame. Should have won by 60. 3rd quarter was an ugly offensive quarter of football.

Defense A+: You hold a team to -18 yds at half and 56 total for the game, plus a shutout. Not much more they could have done.

Special Teams A-: Lunsford breaks an almost 25 year record. Positive return yardage on both kickoffs and punts. Only downside was one penalty that gave GW a first down.

Before kickoff, didn't LU and G-W have identical 4-3 records? :dontgetit
With wins against Lynchburg, VMI ? I don't believe you were at the game yesterday? Their OL was very weak. I do not want to take anything against our guys, they played a very good game, but this will not look like a stellar win at years end. GW may not win another game. I will sure be pulling for them next week though. :)
