I walked through the courtyard the other day, brought back a lot of memories. It's sad to see it go.

What the Champion said about that taking students by surprise is true. Despite the fact that the Student Center has been discussed and pictured for nearly two years, a bunch of students freaked out on social media when they started demolishing the courtyard. As if they were doing it by mistake. Guess that just illustrates how little attention Liberty students are paying these days, sadly.

Funny, I never liked the courtyard when I was there. I prefer open lawns to trees and plants. Fewer bugs that way.

Not the bugs that actually bother people. Gnats are like a plague in this area, and they prefer open lawns. Trees and plants foster a unique atmosphere, we need more of it.

You're not gonna like Liberty's plans then. There are trees, but not like the old courtyard. Most of the green space is coming from expansive open lawns.

Doesn't matter one way or another to me, I won't be there. I just like seeing fancy new buildings go up, regardless (mostly) of who builds them and where.

Liberty has two new webcams up today. One is a west view of the Commons II site. The other is labeled a south view of Commons II, but is actually a south view of the new Student Center site behind DeMoss. That camera is either mislabeled or misplaced (probably the former, I would say).

One of my last classes before I left was in the back corner of that old science hall. That last semester, it was the closest classroom to the new Jerry Falwell Library, which conveniently had hot chocolate. It was about the only thing I enjoyed that semester. That being said, the building smelled like chemicals and the classroom had far too many portable chair-desks jammed into it, which people kept loudly knocking over. You could barely lean forward in your seat without being uncomfortably close to the student in front of you.

When was that built? I was under the impression it was later than the original quad. Anyway, JFJR's model indicated that building won't last long either (which is good, because now it would look horrendously out of place).

Hearing there are some 'issues' in Commons I, mostly related to shoddy (or maybe just rushed) workmanship. Things like power outlets coming out of the walls, paint peeling, some rodent 'infestation' on the first floor.... Pure rumors at this point, but hopefully they won't rush the second building and can make sure those things are addressed properly. I was seriously concerned watching the progress during the summer and knowing they were going to allow students in there in the Fall. Not the first time a building was occupied before it was ready, but that's not a good way to operate. Everybody knows construction projects rarely meet their projected completion dates

So the Religion hall most likely was built sometime in the early 1980s. Can anyone confirm the exact year?

To be fair, you can't really send letters to almost 1/6 of your incoming on-campus students in July telling them they can't live on campus after all. If you can make the building livable according to the inspector, you do so.

Now that Commons 1 is actually finished, I would think they'll take their time on Commons 2 and the other new dorms that are slowly going to replace what's left of the Circle.
