Good grief. I'm not one to be a grammar Nazi. I commented that the last 2 posts were easy to read. The only one i had an issue with was the one where they called me out.

Get over yourselves

As for the :flamingdevil Someone has to keep all the people that drink the :koolaid or feel they have inside scoop and get off by flaunting it without saying anything in check.

Then, under Gill, that'll happen 50-60% of the time.

Again, great dude. Not a great head coach for the place our program is.

I'm docking you :flamingdevil points. If you have something to say, say it.
You can give more specifics as to why you don't feel he's a good HC without giving sources away.
Is it his organizational skills?
Is he too hands on? Hands off?
Game management skills?
Recruiting?

Lots of room to discuss without outing sources. A good :flamingdevil member can do that.

FORBIDDEN- here is my smart remark. You always blame your phone. Does your phone have a different keyboard than the rest of the world. But your last 2 posts were much more readable. :D
.

Yes it does its called the I type one thing and my phone thinks it's something else and since I'm a limo driver my time is limited, so my proofing is off, now when I'm home or on my ipad, I actually look like I know wth I'm saying when I type

For the record, Rocco did win two outright championships. It was before the auto-bid though and we didn't have the out of conference record to get in. I'd still say the 08 team should've been in over Maine though.

I was a Gill advocate when Rocco left. All of the things people said about him that were negatives are coming true.

Gill is a guy who can build a program with no or low expectations but can't keep a good team good. He's David Bennett with less interesting press conferences.

What are some of the things you think contribute to that? I'm still a huge Gill advocate and am curious what behaviors he's demonstrating that cement your changing opinion.

Interesting comparison. I don't agree with it though.

Rocco was organized and had a plan. That plan had its flaws (3-4 cover 2) but it was a plan. Gill's plan changes from one week to the next and he gets away with it by calling it "multiple." If he's flying by the seat of his pants in the game plan, imagine how that's translating to the program overall.

Anything Gill has been in charge of that requires attention to detail (OC first year, Special Teams last year) has been abysmal.

His ability to hire a staff is questionable at best at this point. He essentially brought everyone from a staff that had just gone 2-19 and gotten fired. Then, when two of the best three guys on that staff left, he replaced them with unknown guys in their first roles.

He didn't bring in an OC his first year because he called the plays. Then, when that went horribly wrong, he handed the play calling over to the guy with the OC title who had no experience calling plays.

Great motivator. Players loved him. Built from nothing but couldn't move the program past its initial success.

Gill's a great motivator. His players love him. He built Buffalo from nothing. When he went to Kansas, he couldn't move them past where they were. Not his fault because it was Kansas. He gets here and can't move us past shared championships and close losses in big games.

If there does end up being a change, whether after this year or next, it is probably going to take an out of the box hire much like Coastal had in order to get this team over the hump. I like Coach Gill, a lot...its just worn thin coming up short (even as Im described as one of the resident Kool-Aid drinkers...I don't slurp, its bad manners postie...Ive largely kept my frustration off the board)

That's understandable. But I also don't know if it's a big enough sample size. We agree that we can throw out Kansas, but that just leaves us with building a Buffalo program and arguably continue building an LU program.
I think it's waaayyyy to early to pull the plug on him or IMO even think about it. I like what UVA did with London. Identify his weakness and hire someone who has that as a strength. And I like Gill more than London. I'm not sure our administration is capable of that outside the box thinking.

Not willing to give up on Gill yet. I would give him 2 more years regardless of record, and NO ONE wants to win more than I do. That way, he gets 4 years of recruiting his guys. If he can't win with his guys........................................... see ya.

Speaking of Bennett, I would like to see him on our staff. I liked the guy and would suspect he would be a good recruiter. I might also have no idea what I am talking about, (this post only) :) but thought he did a good job at Coastal.

I do think that a coach with a proven system would do well.

I know PH castigated me for saying this before, but I think that we could potentially run a system of the style of Oregon (not saying run it exactly like them). We will get Des back in 2015 off the knee injury and still have Todd, Austin, Josh Smith (also coming off of injury) and Carrington Mosley plus Kevin Grooms which will help with the speed at the RB position (and some power as well). We have excellent speed at the WR position, just gotta work on tightening up the hands so we won't have as many drops, especially on stretch the field type plays like Dante dropped on Saturday. What we really are going to need is athletic, well conditioned offensive linemen who can handle going up and down the field and being part of a high tempo offense and still do their job in run blocking and pass protection.

For the record, I'm not claiming that, at this point, he should be let go at the end of the year. My point is that I believe we're now at the beginning of the end, with the end being after next year.

That's fair Jon...I do think there will be quite a bit of re-evaluating going on even as we keep going this season

Agreed. It will take a football coach who is fully concentrated on winning and upholding the university's standards.

The staff he brought in was good. However u lose torbush and minter and their replacements arent exactly polished. One of the biggest problems is that we havent brought in someone to take over special teams. They have been a wreck under gill all 3 years. Gill hasnt won any big non conference games. Rocco did have 3 solid non conf wins. Plus the resources given to gill and co now are light years more than what liberty football has ever had. Its time to get this thing in the right direction.

The coaching staff is the root of the problem. I don't know how many times I am going to say it, but I will keep doing it. They can change and improve, but I am not confident that these things will happen.

Together, the bold what causes the most concern in the athletic department and administration.

LU's biggest problem is on defense, not offense.

I think Coach Gill is the one to take program to next level.

LU is just snake-bit in certain areas. Bad officials have hurt LU for years. very seldom do we get a call in a tight game, unless it's obivious off-sides or illegal procedure by other team.

Nick Saban could leave Alabama and come to LU and we'd still get shafted by the refs.

How is the defense the problem, bottom line is if your young then your young, the only thing that will change some of that is experience. Conservative play calling could be an issue as well as injuries. Don't say you can't do if you haven't tried, but I do think things will change for the better.

Prime example of fickle is that you say the problem is not offense. Last week at ISU was that the offense sucked now this week, the offense is great minus the drops. First two weeks of the season it was opposite the defense wasn't the problem it was always another facet. The only facet needs to be handled is ST. Return men hv to either do it or get out the way, cover teams need to cover or be taken off teams.

the reason you CAN blame the coaches is for some the leash is longer than others, and it's the coaches who out the same players back in the field after they continually make the same mistakes on teams.

That is just an excuse. Blowing the whistle before the play was over for the goal line fumble was a mistake by the referees, but it did not cost us the game. We had every chance to win the game and did not.
