You guys are quick on the trigger to lock the game thread.

It wasn't pretty but it's an important win.

The 'D' played well. Norfolk State played poorly.

I would bet it is due to problems at NSU. Doesn't normally happen at home.
Not talking about technical issues...sideline reporter asked D coach how they subdued Trail

Yeah, there is some room for improvement both on the field and in the post-game analysis. Let's focus on the former for the moment.

It was frustrating to see DJ having trouble to get his legs under him and Todd Macon left sitting on the sidelines. After last week, I expected to see more of Macon especially when DJ was struggling.

The frustration penalties have to stop. They didn't really impact today's game but they will any that are against more evenly matched opponents.

While the big guys up front are getting a lot of attention, how about Dylan Lewellyn with 11 tackles in spite of an injury? Of course he had one of those personal fouls but he was all over the field today.

No one should be surprised by Jacon Hagen making plays by this point. That early pick was huge.

How about the call to go for it on fourth down early on, on our end of the field? Could have been a huge swing the other way if we didn't make it. I think that was the long drive where we scored the field goal.

That was a big conversion for us early on. NSU gets the stop, that gives the defense a huge boost of confidence going forward in the game.

NSU is probably the best defense we will face at the FCS level this year...I agree with PH, I really dont think that is too far fetched of a statement

I'm not sure she's wrong
I'm not sure either. We'll have to wait and see. If NSU's defense plays like this the rest of the season, they'll have a chance in every game that they play. Whether they win a lot of them, is a different story.

Seems like we did a lot better running the ball out of the I formation with 2 backs and the TE lead blocking. Not sure why we didn't do that more. Woodrum missed a long wide open pass to Peterson in the first half that would have gone for a TD. Not being over-critical, a win is GREAT, just saying.

Post game grades:

Offense: B+. We played a great defense, but the play calling has to be better in longer stretches, too many drops again, and need some better decision making from Woodrum. If we can consistently control the ball for 8-10 play drives, we'll win a lot of games. I also don't think that we should abandon the running game quite as quickly as we did today. It was tough running, but we need to stay committed a little longer. Overall, a huge improvement from UNC.

Defense: A. The things keeping this from being an A+ are the linebacker and secondary tackling and the busted secondary coverages on two separate plays. There were several plays where we flat out missed tackles. If they complete the shot that they took around 8:00 to go in the fourth, its a completely different ball game. Other teams will complete that pass. When we play more talented offenses, that could spell trouble for us if we don't correct those things soon.

Special teams: B-. We performed solid; no major returns for NSU. But we have to sure up the punt protection or better coached special teams will exploit it. Our kickoffs were shaky as well, but the kick coverages were pretty solid.

NSU did do a better job stopping our run than UNC did.

Why?
To me, it seems to be in contradiction to what Jesus taught about prayer. I love that we pray, but when we post those pictures, it becomes "Look at us praying! See what great people/sports we are because we are praying with the other team?"

SJ may have a different reason - but that's mine ;)
