Do you have somebody that you desperately want to keep so as to avoid getting into a bidding war during the draft? I don't understand why you're so adamant about changing the league's format. I don't have a say in the matter since I'm new to A League this year, but I do find it curious that it's apparently been running much more smoothly up until this year.

i won the dang thing last year and i don't want any of my players from last year. part of the fun of a non keeper league is doing it all over again. which is what we agreed to the league being. just tiptoeing into a keepr league with 1 player doesn't make sense, and thumbing your nose at newcomers who don't get to keep anything doesnt' make sense either.

you can't just up and make a league a keeper league after the fact. i'd of drafted differently last year if i knew i was going to have to keep players. i built my team to win last year, not set it up for winning next year and the year after.

you do have a say. you are in the league. and would be one getting hosed right off the bat.

I dont have somebody I don't want to get in a bidding war over. I thought that that was a given (keeping one player) and not a one time deal. anyway, no keepers, everybody bids on everybody, just as long as all the positions are filled...thats correct right?

Since its auction style you wouldnt forfeit draft position, just they would be automatically deducted from your total budget when assigned. (Which is why I was contemplating bumping the budget up a bit considering the cost of some players)

You change a rule without telling anyone, but then decide that that rule change might not benefit you enough. So you consider changing another rule to mitigate the negative effects of the rule that you implemented.

Is that basically what I'm seeing here?

Actually I got a pm from somebody to check on the costs of some of the players he was considering (09 i believe). I did the math, and when I saw what the total was I though "well...a quarter of his budget on one player? Maybe if I bumped everyone's starting budget up to say...$300 that might offset some of these huge player costs." the only other way would have been to set artificially low numbers so that if what I had hoped to do would have been enacted, it would allow for a more active bidding within the draft itself. I looked at some of my guys from last year and I would have been out of money within minutes. would I like to keep a LeSean McCoy from last year? certainly...but he is at $58 according to Yahoo...that would have put me in the same situation as 09...using a quarter of my budget on a single player before even making a single bid.

Here is the deal. I looked at some of the results from last year when I was working on this year I thought, "let's see...how can we keep things relatively balanced among the guys that are left, while giving the new managers a shot so that they have as much a chance to stay in for next year as the existing guys..." So I thought about it, and looked at situations in real life (like the EPL) and tried to come up with something that takes advantage of the roster stability of club soccer (outside of the MLS or really soccer in America) in spite of relegation/promotion but still allows for a fun league where everyone can be competitive, but have to be attentive to their team from day 1 (and add some additional strategy as well)

You sorta have to start a keeper league from scratch. Yu can't just all of a sudden decide to do it. I'm in both a keeper league, which is awesome, and an auction league, which is expensive.

Im aware of that...that's why Im taking additional steps to make sure I don't miss it this year. (downloading the app on my phone, adding alarms, adding an additional notification on my calendar, etc) Speaking of the draft, are we in agreement with the draft being at 8 PM Eastern? If so, I need to update my calendar

If someone else wants to be in charge for 2015 I would have no problem relinquishing the position at that point (whether Im in the A League or not after this season)

being a commissioner isn't a big deal. just remember you don't have any real authority. you are just setting up the league. which yahoo now makes 100 times easier with button clicks. just leave things the way they should be and you are fine.

The way an auction draft works is you pick (nominate) a player for everybody to bid on and it proceeds until everybody has a full roster or everyone is out of money.

If there is a player you really want, you have to keep an eye on who is presented by those ahead of you in each roun, and when you make your 1 "big bid" for a player because you want to have a few dollars to fill the back end

It takes a different strategy compared to regular drafting. While autopicking has been my lot over the years, I got very lucky last year with a few pickups but I want to make sure I can snag a couple good ones on my turns. im sure some people throw a dog or two up there hoping somebody is just desperate enough to drop a good bit of money and price themselves out of a major pick later

I just checked the A League settings and it shows that it's a keeper league. Also, it has budgets of $300 for the draft. Are these the correct settings?

The 300 is correct...the other one is too but nobody selected anybody to keep (myself included) so its a free for all tonight on the auction block. I thought about leaving the draft budget at 200 but after all the crap from the early part of last week I figured I would go ahead and put the extra 100 dollars in as a gesture of apology and good luck gift to everybody.
