The factor that has not been mentioned in the discussion of homecoming music is Guy Penrod being a Liberty alum. My guess is he wanted to do it and likely isn't charging us. Yeah, I know we're rolling in dough, but if an alum, who is in fact a pretty big deal in gospel music, makes a gesture like that, I don't think you want to offend him by telling him we don't want him. I think there is room for a wide range of music at an event like that. I'm about as much of an :oldhag as you can get, but I think both Penrod and Lecrea would be fantastic.

I think Penrod has some kids at Liberty right now as well, right?

I think the Penrod concert is being filmed to be put out as a DVD at some point.

Either way, I think you could do both. Have Penrod for the folks that like that kind of stuff and have a band that skews younger for the other folks.

Personally I would love for someone like Switchfoot to come into town again, their shows never get old. But that's just me.

Some of you guys are smarter than I give you credit for! Some of you made some correct assumptions, and were right about the vast difference in demographics ranging from our LUO grads Vs Res grads, and our smaller population of pioneers vs the grads from the last decade during our boom.

A local promoter & TRBC is bringing in Guy Penrod and it happened to be during Homecoming. It would be foolish for us to completely ignore one of our alum's who has won a Grammy, and will be here while alumni weekend is taking place. Since it was not an official LUHC event, and some of the concerns mentioned above crossed our mind as well which is why you did not see this as the primary focus in the direct mail pieces going out...or mentioned at all.

The average age of our attendees is 35 (if Medic comes that age will jump up to 45) and we wanted to be careful not to alienate them. We will do a small postcard mailer going to a very targeted demographic promoting Guy coming to town but that's pretty much it. He's great for a particular crowd and it will be interesting to see if he brings out a few folks who normally wouldn't attend HC because all of those young whipper snappers running around.

Anyways...carry on. Just wanted to make sure you guys didn't think we've completely lost touch with our alumni base and what they like. Who wouldn't want NTB to come in for HC....we wouldn't say no to that! It's bit more involved than that though.

Side note: we just got a few samples of our giveaways in for HC and they are epic...I think you'll like them! 8)

Personally I think it would be epic if DC Talk got back together for one night and that concert was held at Liberty on homecoming weekend...

Or we could have TobyMac, The Newsboys, and Audio Adrenaline all play the same night.

Oh wait...

Among alumni mostly but I reckon youll get a ton of DC Talk fans even from outside both of those groups (alumni and students). Also, just because I dont suggest Slipknot, August Burns Red, As Cities Burn, We As Human or something that maybe appeals to you doesn't mean I don't get out at all

Didn't google any of those actually...you would be surprised what I know if you weren't so busy a) dreaming you were taller and b) spending your time denigrating me on a message board

I would sneak into a DC Talk reunion show if I had to. The entire city of Lynchburg would hear the crowd going nuts when they played the opening chords of Jesus Freak, and most of the campus and surrounding area would hear them singing along to it.

I assume I'm probably the youngest member of this board, so I can say for certain at least 50% of current students, myself included, know who DC Talk is.

I wouldn't bet on it.

Dc talk would be a big deal. You guys are kidding yourself if you think otherwise. With that said it's not going to happen. Kevin max already has left audio adrenaline and is back to doing his own thing. It just isn't happening.

But holy crap I agreed with BJ. Time for bed.

When I went to Winter Jam back in February, Newsboys was the last act to perform and their second to last song was Jesus Freak. When he was setting up the crowd for that song he said "A few years ago I was a member of a band called DC Talk" after he said the name of the band a 5,000 seat stadium full of high school kids went insane. They wouldn't have reacted that way if they didn't know what he was talking about.

The guys got together recently in Nashville for a couple of songs at an industry event. There has been talk of a reunion show at Lu for several years. And I can tell you for certain that none of the three is strongly opposed to making it happen. Next year marks the 20th anniversary of Jesus Freak and 30th anniversary of the formation of the group while on campus at LU. Whether it happens at Homecoming or as part of something bigger, I will be surprised if the reunion does not happen soon.

My best guesses would be Block Party, Homecoming or both(one for students and one for alumni). Winterfest is also a possibility but I think it would be better to have a show like that somewhere outside, which wouldn't be very fun in January.

It would either be Homecoming in the stadium or as a date on their reunion tour. The biggest impediment to the latter would be the success of their current acts.

There were rumblings earlier in the year like you said but those have died down. It's either next year or never in my opinion.

I was just telling my roommates last night that a dream of mine is a DC Talk reunion show at LU. The Vines Center would not be big enough for the crowd, think it would have to be at the football stadium. Someone please make this happen!

And yes it was a little wet last night. I went (not a student, staff, faculty, or even alum... oops) just to see NeedtoBreathe and it started pouring right when they started. For the sake of my phone I left.

Yeah, just a little. Literally as soon as Need to Breathe played the first chord of their first song it started POURING. And as is my luck by the time the 72 bus got back to my dorm, the rain had stopped.

The football stadium would be great for a DC Talk reunion show. Warning another JakeP50 pipe dream special incoming: Maybe they'll do it Friday night of Homecoming weekend and let everyone at Gillville in to the show. There would be no stopping us from hearing it so why not let us into the student section.
