hard to tell from the lo res cameras but thats what it looks like

I'm sure it didn't bypass your keen eye, but there is also a new webcam up for the Center for Music and the Worship Arts. It's a really nice angle.

It sure would be nice if the cameras were HD...

yes for several days the Cam labeled "MED SCHOOL 1" actually showed a nice view of the top of a crane and the Walmart parking lot

I didn't complain - figuring they'd just pull it down altogether to aggravate me. Since its all about me.

It was also handy for monitoring the traffic flow at Walmart @ rush hour.

is it weird if I continually refresh the page or click "back" and "forward" to get a sense of where the machines are moving, and for what purpose?

like trying to figure out which utilities are being trenched and how the grading will go?

yeah I didn't think so either. cool.

As long as you haven't overlooked the fact the images update on their own every few seconds without refreshing, no it's not weird. P.S. I, too, pay far too much attention to the grading plans and how they've changed as the Master Plan has evolved.

Well, I have a little present for everybody, though I think 'Medic will appreciate it the most. I rode around the perimeter of the campus today just for the heck of it, and since I wasn't the one driving, I took photos of all the construction projects I went past, focusing on angles not covered clearly by webcam. Next month I plan to spend some time on campus taking pictures outside and inside all the new buildings, which will be superior because things will be further along and the pictures won't have window reflections, dashboards, and mirrors in them. But for the time being, enjoy the following photo gallery: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... sp=sharing

Some thoughts:
  • Residential Commons I and the area surrounding it is ridiculously beautiful, once they finish polishing it up it will be beyond gorgeous.
  • The Science Hall is coming along very nicely, roofing and brick are both already going up in some places.
  • The parking garage looks great with the proper facade in place. Won't detract from the beauty of the campus at all, and may even add to it.
  • The whole vehicular tunnel project looks amazing now, especially with the new brick and stone crosswalks they've put in on the LU side. It's a great first impression for the campus.

wow. not much else to say!

amazing.

the fixed construction cams really (and I mean REALLY) skew the scale... that is just unbelievable

that campus looks nothing like it did back in my day

thanks for those pics

PS: parking garage- elevators or just stairs in those 4 corner towers?

Im excited to finally get a tour of the library...but to drive on that campus for homecoming and see all the changes, you're right to not be able to recognize the campus postie...and I certainly won't either

Yeah the webcams make it hard to tell just how freakin' massive everything is. As for the parking garage, I don't think every tower has an elevator. I feel like there must be at least one for building code, unless maybe all the handicapped spaces are on the ground level...? If I can get inside on foot I may check it out when I do my full photo tour next month.
PAmedic wrote:XTREME on the Campus Center cam there is a crane and maybe a pile driving machine (?) working on the pad directly in front of the new Science hall. whats up with that?
I'm not completely sure. I believe that area will be part of the new lawn, so they might be removing the foundation of the old slab building that used to be there. It's also possible it has something to do with demolishing the old performing arts slab next door.
thepostman wrote:I don't even recognize that place anymore and it has only been a few years since I was last on campus. Just unbelievable.

I first toured the campus near the end of 2010, and started freshman year in August 2011. Yet, it's even hard for me to believe this is the same campus, even though I've been around for most of the changes. You guys will be blown away when you next visit.
Sly Fox wrote:Those pictures are spectacular! I can't wait to see how these projects have advanced when I arrive in jut over a month.
If you're talking about homecoming, I would imagine that Commons I and the parking garage will both be finalized by then. They should be preparing to start groundwork on both Commons II and the new Campus Center by then as well.

thanks

you're probably right about having to rip out a pretty good sized pad there.

yeah honestly I bet if you put me down blindfolded in or around one of the newly constructed buildings I'd get lost.

just looking at some of those shots you took is confusing... nothing to orient to since everything that was there is gone.

consider the fact that this was a typical routine for me and a lot of the guys on here:

1. leave the dorm (Circle dorm #12 for me)
2. walk down a billion steps then cross the bridge thru the ravine (logs)
3. come up the other side near saga
4a. eat and hope you didn't die
4b. if you did get sick, take your chances at the little health clinic where we went when everyone on campus caught the plague one year. place was about 10' square
5. check your mail in the shoe-box post office just off the side of Liberty Gym
6. hit the bookstore and Guillerman Library in the one story Demoss. The place where the few TVs on campus were located. or just sit on the brick wall in the middle of it.
7. soap the fountain
8. try getting in a workout at the student weight room behind the post office (also @ 10' square)
9. intramurals in Liberty Gym
10. go to sleep, then repeat.

thats it. thats all we had.

I remember having to leave 45 minutes before my first class in the religion hall because I had to walk all the way to the bridge over 460, having to do my laundry during the day because otherwise there were no washers available anywhere (and you werent allowed to take your stuff to campus east although im sure many did anyway), and of course lines all over DeMoss on book buyback week even though 75 percent of the books either couldnt be sold or were worth next to nothing...

Hey Xtreme, I don't follow all the stuff like you guys. Would you mind putting captions on those pictures to let those like me know what each building is? I could figure out a few, but some I had no idea. Thanks dude.

That is a great idea, one I had already thought of but couldn't figure out how to do at first without spending an inordinate amount of time physically editing the images. Fortunately, I've just now managed to attach descriptions to the pictures in Google Drive, which you should now be able to see under "Details" for each picture. 8) Let me know if for some reason you can't see them.

Wow, you guys really were "old school" … literally! Although BJ, I'm a little confused by something you said. You mention having to cross the bridge over US-460 to get to the religion hall, yet also mention not being able to find an available washer…? If you didn't live on East Campus, why did you have to cross the bridge?

Sorry...when I lived on East Campus (pre-tunnel) I had to walk to my theology class by crossing the bridge over 460 to get to the religion hall...later when I was in the hill, I found out that you weren't allowed to take your laundry to East to get it washed...

Ah, that makes more sense. Your explanation, not the concept of leaving East Campus for the Hill.

I lived on the Hill and I learned to do my laundry at irregular times. I found home football games and Campus Church to be particularly good times to do laundry. And get food without waiting 30 minutes. I'm encouraged to hope that future generations will have it better.
PAmedic wrote:Ps: No east campus, just a guard shack and getting written up if you tried crossing said bridge
Um … why?? Were students not allowed over there for some reason? Or was it like Pensacola where you got in trouble for leaving the "campus proper" without written permission?

IMO Liberty's rules are still way too strict in all the wrong areas (I can say that now that I'm gone and am not expected to follow them anymore), but I'm still amazed to hear the kinds of things students got written up for "back in the day."
