Greatness? haha youre too kind postie. I mean like I said, the only reason so many people knew who I was is the fact that I was on campus for 19 semesters, and that one time on stage at coffeehouse (and most people from that semester are long gone)

You had a reputation for taking seven years to graduate. That definitely leans more towards the worst side of things than the great side of things. You're a great dude and person, but you're reputation wasn't because of that.

More often than not, celebrity is built on what you do and not who you are.

Believe me Jon, I was well aware of the length of time it took. My parents wanted me to just get my degree done, and the last 2 years I was dealing with a lot of stuff, starting with the death of my grandmother in 2007 and then nearly dropping out of school after my sister was given 24 hours to live. My goal after year 4 was just getting it done. While the amount of time it took wasn't a good thing, I made good out of if by making friends all along the way. Now, I did get in trouble quite a few times (including one time for some comments I made on here), but all in all, despite being a "professional student", I would not trade those 7 years for anything for those two reasons: the friends I made, and the fact that I fulfilled a promise I made on my grandmother's deathbed.

Beej, I'm not judging what you did. You had your reasons and at the end of the day, you got your degree which is honorable. I was saying you were infamous for taking that long and that's what made you a "celebrity."

The point? I took seven years to get a 4 year degree...that's bad. As a result, people knew who I was but not for a good reason...is that your point hmm?

And let me guess, I also didn't leave much of a legacy behind which apparently made those "infamous" seven years a waste of my time right? All I was was a creepy old man who couldn't make much of a difference other than to get his degree?

Maybe I am more of a jerk, but I think BJ is much more entertaining right before he takes a 'break'.

Look, Im not taking a break. Im just very upset that this is how I am perceived by people who I count as friends. There won't be any need to "watch the news". I just have to take a real hard look at my life and the difference I made (if any) other than just being that guy who took too long to get his bachelors

My recommendation for your priority list would be

1a. God
1b. Family/kids
1c. Employment

You may have noticed that nowhere on that list was "worry about some internet message board dude's opinion"

Just a tip

Beej, no one thinks bad about you. The chip on your shoulder is getting in the way of your reading.

All I said was your were infamous for being around forever. That's what made you a celebrity. I did not, at any point, say it was a bad thing. You looked up the definition of infamous and jumped on a few words and got your feelings hurt. You did that. We didn't do that.
