Another year could easily sway a vote or 2 if football does what it should in year 3 of gill, basketball improves and the other sports stay hot. It would be nice to avoid any unnecessary controversies like the henn debacle as well. I mean it stinks that it didnt happen but it feels like we have made significant headway in the 2 years since we announced fbs intentions. I also dont see staff bailing like crazy either. I mean barber and toman were hired long before fbs and transition looked like it could possibly happen. Think back to when barber was hired, fbs did not sound like an option for discussion at all in 07. Toman would be crazy to leave for anything short of a high level acc sec job and even then it would be questionable with what hes built and the facility he has now. Gill is really the only wild card there because we dont really know what his expectations were but i have to think that he had to know it might not happen for a while. I think he would have to have a great year to be in discussions for a comparable job to happen anyway. Plus we will likely be doing this whole thing again next year. Its dissappointing but it does feel like progress to me unless jerrys statement was false or he has been mislead by the belt contacts he made
Point of order: one of the main reasons JB was hired was to help us transition to FBS. Also moving up has been on the radar for at least 20 years

One thing is for sure: There are enough schools that DON'T want us. The whole "we would like to get used to stability" is pure spin.

Don't worry about TG leaving. Its not like people are beating down the door to get to him....

On the contrary, FB should be completely focused on getting into the playoffs. That is his only ticket out of here. If he doesn't this year, changes will be made to the rest of the staff and he will be next.

Just a thought for the LU Online haters. Where do you think that most of the money for the big
athletic budgets and all the new facilities come from? Is it the 12,000 residential students or the
80,000 online students? I think that even someone who has taken a math class online can figure
this out. You like the result of our money, but you seem to be ashamed of our existence. Liberty
is doing something that many other universities are doing. We just do it better than most. I
received one of my degrees at LU Online and I didn’t have anyone question my mode of
obtaining it. My brother received his Bachelors from Phoenix and his Master’s from Liberty
online and he is now teaching at a community college. If getting a degree online from Liberty is
only getting a degree from a diploma mill, I don’t think tens of thousands of people would be
wasting their time .Online classes present a great opportunity for those who are not 18 years old
and just out of high school. Do we want to totally change who we are in order to get into a
conference that acts if though they are run by Moe, Larry and Curly? I think the real reason we’ve
been turned down is that we are not politically correct enough for those liberal presidents at those
schools. One of the reason I chose to go to Liberty, was it’s willingness to take a stand for what is
right. Thanks for letting me put my two cents in.

Point of order: when was there ever a precise timetable given for said move...while he was brought in for that transition, did he or JLFJR or JLFSR or anyone say "we will be FBS in 5 years or 7 years or 1 year or 10 years or whenever. all that I've heard or read is we will be FBS.

No one ever gave a time table after the Carr report. But the stated goal to move to what was at the time 1A was expressed when Karcher was hired and bantied around before that. In truth when Karcher was hired there was a 5-7 year time line laid out.

I am for locking this thread down. Too hurtful to keep reading. I know I should be able to just not open it, but I can't. Next time we are considered, we should not say anything until the deed is done. :)

Haize, agreed my point is that i dont think barber would quit now. The difference between the talks of 20 years ago and today is that the structure, resources, and staff is there. 10 years ago we had none of that but the vision. This board is pretty hard on jb and jr sometimes but i really think theyve done an outstanding job and lu has reaped the benefit of their leadership.

I take logical issue with this:
⏩ How much does Liberty’s football track record have to do with its ability to move up?

Not much, frankly. Georgia State has one of the worst programs in the country, but the Panthers play in Atlanta and the Sun Belt was interested in moving into that market. Charlotte had yet to play a game before being invited to Conference USA. Again, a market issue. On the other hand, Georgia Southern and Appalachian State were both very attractive to the Sun Belt because of their past football success and because they were name brands at the FCS level. Still, I don’t think that this vote would have changed much had Liberty made five FCS playoff appearances in the last five years.

Ga State and Charlotte are no brainers for the reason listed. But what do App St and GSU bring market wise? Boone and Statesville. Not exactly media hotbeds. What they do bring is WINNING.

And was Jerry and JB talking about the Exit Fee numbers? If so, WOW,

Karcher spoke on my hall during hall meeting right after he was hired (spring or fall 2000) and stated unequivocally that Liberty would be 1A in football within 10 years. He also predicted them winning national championships during his tenure.

I don't think he was taking about exit fees paid to leave, but what each team paid to join the big 12. I've tried to find that number, but no luck so far.

My question was were they talking about the total dollars paid by WVU to join the Big XII (huge mistake) I think the Big East exit fee was about 12 million
