Just my opinion, but playoff wins and location had very little to do with it. I first learned what the academic world thinks of us when i went to grad school at UofL. Several professors learned of my undergrad degree from Liberty and I was "harassed" for the semester with those profs. The second example is when I applied for another advanced degree and had to be interviewed before being accepted into the program. The interview wad great until I shared I attended liberty. 5 minutes later the interview was over and I was told I wouldn't be a good "fit" for their program. If you think college presidents have a favorable view of Liberty I would tell you to think again.

I absolutely won't blame him for looking. He has every right to do that. But I can't imagine many FBS schools looking at Gill's resume and saying, "That's the guy we want." Sure what he did at Buffalo was impressive, but it wasn't eye opening or anything. He still only had one winning season there. Regardless of how the Kansas situation actually went down, those seasons still happened, so, there's that. Unless we go 10-2 and make a run in playoffs, I just don't see any FBS school giving Gill an offer.

On the other hand, I do believe JB and others in the athletic office will be leaving Liberty within the year.

I wouldn't be surprised if Barber, Gill, or Toman were gone by this time next year and again, I can't blame them.

Two things. I agree Barber will start looking.
C4L stated on the SB that Liberty made a huge offer to the SB and was still turned down. Anyone know what was offered?

While I don't think it will be next fall. I do think those three will start looking elsewhere.
As far as the reasoning behind us not getting in, I've been in the Academic/Religion camp this whole time. We are too polarizing. If we were to be more like the Baylors, Ivy's, etc. of the world. we would be more appealing to the SBC Presidents. But because we haven't sacrificed our message and ultimate goal of being a light for Christ in this world we are not worthy of their conference in their minds. If getting into the SBC means deviating from our ultimate goals, I don't want any part of it. Just my two cents.

You sorta defeated your own objection. Some people in Academia don't take LU seriously because of the lack of scholarly output. All of the money, facilities, libraries etc don't mean anything without Scholarly production. Same thing with Athletics.

I don't know how much, but I know it's enough that if the actual number came out, the school in the Sun Belt West that are cash strapped will get some heat for not taking it.

As a faculty member and administrator approaching my third year on campus, I'm curious to know what is meant by "scholarly production." We're an accredited institution; we're not "elite" but we're not a diploma mill, either, and I can't imagine that we are worse than the other Sun Belt schools. We're a teaching institution, so no one should expect research or publications as outputs. What is everyone looking for in the academic arena - honest inquiry?

Unfortunately Haize is right on that one. Academia will not take anyone seriously who does not do the above bold.

Also, many consider LUOnline to be a diploma mill. I tend to agree since I completed my Finance degree through them and the classes were, for the most part, WAY easier than the classes I took on campus.

Obama has used this phrase many times, and I wouldn't tend to give the phrase much credence, but this time I would say that The Sunbelt will be proven to be on the "wrong side of history." Several of those schools will continue along the same path of decline that many state schools are slowly going down due to budget constraints. Meanwhile, I think that LU is on a trajectory that few other schools have seen and will ever see. 30 years from now, schools like ULM will still be non-factors, but LU will be recognizable across the country. Just my opinion, of course, but I'm not going to shed tears. Who knows what the future holds.

We just need to focus on what we've got now and focus on total and complete domination of the Big South. We've still got some room to grow. Let's do it.

I know you're using the term for effect, but I worked in Washington, DC as a senior executive in 2004 when the diploma mill issue was at a crisis point, and a lot of civil servants across government, including 25% of DoD employees, were nailed with fake degrees, so I know the difference between a diploma mill and an accredited degree-granting institution.

I'm pleased that you found your online finance courses easier than the residential variants, but judging from our withdrawal/failure rates across multiple programs, not everyone finds LU Online courses easy. I hope you expressed your opinions in an alumni survey or to your professors, because we take pride in offering reputable courses that are accessible and affordable, and if we can do better, we need to know.
