You know that there is way too much emotional capital being invested in this thread, from PH and his :flamingdevil nonsense on one side, to RC and the :cheerleader on the other and everywhere in between...the real only level headed ones in this whole process have been Sly, Lang, Jon and postie along with myself. no matter how this whole mess shakes out, I think we need to take a step back and really examine ourselves as fans just as much as the university folks will have plenty of examining to do whether we are invited or not

I think I have a bigger issue here PH. He called me a cheerleader and I can't find any chants or cheers in my posts. Just stuff like this:
If we are in, then awesome, celebrate! IF not, then life goes on, and the quest for a FCS playoff berth is back on. It might sting for a little, but Liberty will eventually go FBS.
That's called we aren't gonna die, not cheer leading.

my point is RC that youve got people on either side of this mess and frankly I really don't see a point in being on either side and just letting the process play itself out instead of going after every blog post, twitter tweet or other "news", message board post or what have you and feeling a need to extrapolate it and "react" to it.

So was it ever actually determined if the vote was monday or tuesday, assuming there was a vote. I think were probably a little closer but still dont have enough votes. If we are indeed passed over again we really need basketball or football to break down the door like baseball has.

How am I part of the problem? I've been 100% accurate in my predictions. I said JMU would pass and they did. I said we had a majority of votes and we do. I said I wasn't sure if we had a super majority or not. There is no emotion. I wasn't over the top with anything. You would think someone who claims to be such a huge fan would be a little more interested and passionate. Instead of not caring one way or the other.

Tomorrow the vote will be on whether or not to expand, not whether or not to invite Liberty. The vote will be a majority no meaning we will be where we are for the foreseeable future.

Well, this is bad...but it could be worse. At least we have the Big South. When I came to LU in '97, the football team was a 1aa independent. It was basically impossible to make the FCS playoffs.

Now, with the Big South, at least we have a chance. I think the only option would be to focus making the FCS playoffs.

The CAA may have been an option, but by making the FBS or bust speech, I think we burned that bridge. Sad.

So, we do the best we can with the Big South. I think scheduling 1A schools hurts us...They don't affect the playoffs, and they leave the team either beat up or overconfident. If you went back two or three years ago, would you rather have the Ball State win and no playoffs, or a Ball State loss and win at Robert Morris and a playoff spot?

I also think that we should only schedule 1 d2 game a year...either for the home opener or homecoming. If need be, only have 5 home games and add a game on the road if that's what it takes.

In hindsight, what would have happened, if instead of doing the FBS or bust speech at graduation...If LU would have said nothing...then when the situation with teams VCU and ODU leaving the CAA came up...what if we would have courted the CAA as hard as we courted the Sunbelt? Would Elon have been the one added?

I find it interesting that this entire year the talk has been about adding a new team, adding a new team, adding a new team and now that we're here and Liberty is the only school left, the talk has shifted from voting on the only school available to voting on expansion.

You can thank your ACC friends for that shift. And it is going to be even more frustrating if the potential dominoes start falling above us (i.e. BYU, Cincy, MWC snatching Texan schools) after June 1st and we miss out on a 2016 arrival due to the timing of the ACC CCG deregulation chatter. Patience is never fun.

I really don't think this has anything to do with the ACC. I'm just thinking out loud here:

If they voted against Liberty, they'd have to say why.
They can explain choosing not to expand without having to discuss a specific school.

If they voted against Liberty, what reason would they have other than what we stand for as a school? I don't know enough of the legal issues, but if they voted against us because of who we are, could that open up a can of worms in terms of discrimination and all of that?

Since March when the league presidents voted to expand to 12, there has become clear momentum for the ACC's proposal to deregulate the CCG. Hence the lack of need to go to 12 according to many. If they still needed a dozen schools to qualify for a CCG, we would most certainly have been brought up for at least a vote. Now those on the fence can use the possibility of not needing twelve to avoid having to take a position.

If Swofford had waited until after June 1st to start lobbying then we very likely might have had everything in place to gain the necessary 9 votes. As it stands, we are an extremely distant long shot to gain anything out of today's meetings in Destin.

Now if the dominoes do start falling either by Big XII expansion (unlikely) or by BYU & Boise State joining the AAC (more likely) then you set in motion a series of events that could see Texan schools headed to the MWC creating backfill concerns for both C-USA & the Sun Belt and potentially the MAC. That would create opportunity for us on multiple fronts but push our FBS arrival date back to 2017 unless things could be resolved by a week from Sunday (again very unlikely).

And I'm no expert in SBC procedure, but if they voted yes to go to 12 in March and vote no on the same issue now, they are gonna look dumb anyway.

Whether it's Jon's theory or the ACC dereg. thing, it's shortsighted for the SBC to leave LU out. The exposure a team in VA with LU's national fanbase could give them is huge. I still honestly think our money is a bigger strike against us than our beliefs. Who knows.
