Liberty in the top of the 8th gets a runner onto second base for the first time in the duration of the game. Then Lacik manages a two-out, two-run triple, and the Flames score two runs to UVa who still leads 7-2.

9 days off and lewicki was hot made for a terrible offensive night. Lyons has been trending downward for a while. We need to find that solid 4 th starter with cars down for us to be able to get through these tournaments.

The ODU loss was a perfect storm for UVA, 4 errors,on the road,at Harbor Park, a Triple-A park that's 6x bigger than ODU's on campus ballpark. The team we saw tonight was the University of Virginia Cavaliers baseball team. It really hurt to give them props like that.

I brought up the 9 days and everyone said it was a non issue. 9 days is way too long. If we played that game after 3 or 4 days off, we may not win but we don't lose like that. If we go on to lose the next or 2 of the next 3 I wonder if some of you will come around and admit 9 days off can actually hurt you.

Virginia had been off nearly as long. Toman tried to get a midweek game last week but weather and other factors ruled that out. It is what it is and criticizing anyone about it is pointless.

I didnt criticize anyone. I saw your post and totally agreed. If youve played baseball you know 9 days is off is tough for your timing in hitting. Especially going against lewicki who was dealing

This had nothing to do with the 9 days off. From the people I've talked to that were there, it looked as if we were just happy to be there. Our approach at the plate was to just hit homers instead of the approach that we'd had throughout the year. We coached different and played different than we had all year. One friend told me it was like we knew we were in a regional and that was enough so we were just going to play to get ready for the weekend.

It looks as if this was one of those games where "team did not come to play". personally I think 9 day lay-off hurt. 9 days is a long time to go without a game.

Nine days, seven days, whatever ... there was going to be a significant layoff no matter what due to exams. Virginia had seven days off and O'Connor said he thought his team had its best offensive approach/gameplan of the season. I tend to agree with Jon's assessment. I also don't think getting your butt kicked on a big stage like that is necessarily a bad thing. Shows those guys they've nowhere near "arrived" yet against the type of competition they'll see come early June. Still plenty of work to do.

Its not anyones fault that its 9 days. Its simply true that 9 days does bother your timing as a hitter i promise. I didnt go because I have no confidence in lyons giving a quality start right now. I also think us being ranked got uva juiced up as well. The bad at bats isnt particularily new. There are 2 guys in the lineup regularly that just need to understand their role is to get on base not hit bombs. I still think britt is a great 2 hole hitter close to cleanup graeur 5 then sankey then yacyk. That is your beat lineup. As far as perritt and lacik, its a tossup but i still leave perritt there because of defense. Nick paxton could have really helped this year as another lefty bat ha it not been for the injury. The talent is there and uva is number 1 because they pitch and play defense. There will only be 1 team that is that good in whatever regional we get in.

The difference is simple. LU had to hit against Lewicki and UVA had to hit against Lyons. We gave away a couple runs on the double steal and Shephard trying to throw a runner out at 3rd from fairly deep right field allowing the runner on 1st to move up to 2nd. The next batter got a 2 run single. Even before the 9 day break we had great difficulty mustering up any offense. Is it 7 or 8 games in a row that we haven't scored more than 4 runs?

I believe LU's record against VA is 20/31. Baseball is one sport where a good team can compete against the "big dogs" for one game and not be an upset.
I love this years team and the coaching has been good.
I don't think the "Big South Formula" will hold up in post season play.

I have been concerned for some time, that the guys might be reading their press clippings, swinging for the fences and taking a NCAA berth for granted. Not sure that has become a problem, I am not that close to the program, but this is the first time it has been mentioned. We need to get back to get back to the basics and playing within ourselves. Coastal and Winthrop are not going to roll over for sure.

We simply got beat by a good pitcher. I don't think anyone was swinging for the fences. If Seiz and Close hadn't dug out some throws from ss and 3rd uva would have had a few more runs. The left side has given up several unearned runs in the last several games. Our pitching has kept us in the game. I don't think you cant fault Lacik for anything he has done this season. You have guys who are doing far less at bat and defense starting every game. I believe 3rd is something like 2 for his last 21 at bats. In tight games where the other team has a good closer those infield mistakes are going to hurt you. Pitchers are going to have to be on their game because I don't think coastal and Radford are going to hand it to us like gweb and ashvlle did .

Cuda i agree 3rd has been a dead spot all year. Neither kimble or allen have hit. A healthy taormina and paxton would have been huge this year. Lacik is a nice player. I have nothing against him. I just dont think a 235 hitter with medium speed and no power should be a guaranteed starter. Weve hashed this before so i wont waste too much time. Does anyone know what was wrong with taormina or if hes coming back? Looked like arm surgery.
