We've got Sun Belt Commish Karl Benson coming on, and yes, we're going to ask him about expansion plans for 2015-16 and beyond when the Idaho/NMSU contracts are up.

We'll be asking about JMU, MSU and LU specifically.

Can you say, "Media Blackout"? Based on the new realignment article on Flames Nation, and Benson's decision to postpone his TCR interview, it sounds like he's in a position right now where he cannot talk about any of this stuff. I will say this: if Liberty was off the Sun Belt's radar at this point, IMO there would be no good reason to keep that so secret. My interpretation/expectation, for anyone who cares to hear it, is that negotiations within the Sun Belt have reached a critical point, Liberty is still part of that conversation, and we will not hear anything else until a final decision is made.

Even if Benson had appeared, he would have said nothing of substance. I've dealt with three different conference commissioners in the past (Fullerton/Big Sky, Swofford/ACC, Kallander/Big South), and none of them have ever spoken on the record about a specific prospective member.

Just to clarify my post on Sunday, I seemed to have missed the word "seems" in the EKU president's assessment/e-mail/tweet. I wasn't trying to call the man a liar. I was just trying to say that I know LU is still in the mix. If Liberty was no longer involved in this process, wouldn't it behoove the school's administration to say that it's over, simply to save face? There's no reason to keep that charade going, seeing as every other school mentioned (EKU, MSU, JMU) has made some sort of comment on the matter. While the process is ongoing, LU's administration will have nothing on the record to say. That much I know.

Again, I have knowledge that Liberty is still involved. I don't have any knowledge to the extent of UMass' involvement, though I assume the Sun Belt and UMass have at least had conversations. That makes total sense. Everything else, as has been said, is speculation, and will likely remain that way for a few weeks at least.

Chris is 100 percent correct. If were out it would be made public somewhere. All of the other schools involved have made it public. There is absolutely nothing benson or barber can or should say. I still think we have a great because the league begins to have the problem the big south has if they keep taking football only members that are spread all over the country

I think Chris Lang is right: nobody will know for sure what will happen until the May 18-21 meetings. If they vote to add Liberty, it would almost certainly be a 9-2 vote, and I'm guessing the informal invite, informal acceptance, formal invite, and formal acceptance would all take place during the span of the May meetings. Our allies in the Sun Belt may want to avoid any media leak of Liberty getting an invite until the deal is done. It makes sense, because this wouldn't be the same as adding Appalachian State: Liberty University moving into the FBS will cause some controversy, and it is in everybody's best interests to make sure that doesn't happen until the ink is dry and all involved parties are on the same page, ready to defend and validate the decision.
