After reading the entire article CJ linked, I am thinking more and more this is going to happen. Kid wants to play, and he should get that opportunity here. Also noticed that while the article initially refers to him as a forward, he has actually been playing the 5 for SDSU. Fisher speaks highly of him and says. “We’re hopeful that he’ll find a place that needs someone like him – a big, strong, guy who is athletic – and he will get on-court minutes on game day, and on-court minutes will lead to more on-court minutes. Hopefully, he get that opportunity that he wasn’t quite able to get here.”

Sounds like a perfect fit from a basketball perspective, and with the family and faith connections, it's like it was meant to be. Hope I'm right.

That's exactly why the Civic Center makes no sense from a basketball standpoint. Vines is a great size at 8k.

No.

We have never signed anyone with more than 3 stars in any service that I am aware of. Baird was a 3 star. I believe Braxton Bonds is with one or 2 of the rating services, and McMasters may have been as well.

Ryan Ayers was a four star. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/footb ... ryan-ayers

I think you are correct.

In thinking back to some of the other transfers we have had from higher profile programs, I don't think Baily Alston was that highly rated. One who may have been 4 star is Parrish Hickman, 6'8" PF who transferred from Michigan State (with a stopover in the Michigan prison system). I'm pretty sure he was highly recruited out of HS, but back then the evaluation process was even less scientific than it is now. I'm not sure there really was a standardized 5 star system like we have now. Another is TeeJay Bannister. That's recent enough we could probably check it out on the Sabre. I think he may have been a 4 star.

I don't know for sure because I pay very little attention to scouting services and ratings for HS kids but other possible Liberty players that could have had 4 stars based on what I know of them is Brian Woodson and Dwight Brewington. Someone can research that and let us know. Woodson was recruited by Notre Dame I know for sure and other big boys and of course Brew played in the Big East at Providence.

Carl Williams from West Virginia may have been another. Came over with Hanky and played for 1 season.

Okay, my apologies. I suppose I read your statement wrong where you said "service," I thought you said, "sport."

I suspect that in the coming years we will begin to hear more about "Liberty and Grand Canyon" as final options for kids looking at DI options. GCU has not only joined the WAC but has been pouring funds into their athletic department. And as the NCAA Division I's only for-profit school, they don't have to make any bones about why they are spending the funds they way they choose in Phoenix.
