In yesterday's all-faculty meeting, President Falwell was asked about realignment and he said he couldn't say much other than:

1) They won't know about one of the possibilities until late May.
2) There are others.
3) He's optimistic.

He did reveal that he's been traveling to several other schools lately meeting with college presidents, and he said they are surprised by the diverse demographics of our student body, the fact that we are a full-fledged, fully accredited university with 389 degree programs, that our academic programs are accredited by the same agencies which accredit their programs, that we have a school of engineering, a school of law, and a school of medicine, and that we're not the same as Pensacola Christian, Bob Jones or Tennessee Temple in scope, variety or academic freedom.

He said "their mouths drop open when they start hearing about everything Liberty has to offer", and "when they start hearing about what our doctrinal positions are". In his words, they proclaim, "if you got accreditation from SACS, and NCATE and ABA, then you must be a pretty open-minded group of people."

He said the first part of the meeting is "convincing them that we're normal" and, by the end of the meeting, he says "we've got them close to where we want them to be." He said the similarities in experiences are incredible, and the shared experiences create a bond with them. He also said they are impressed with the fact we have 14 hotels and and 21 restaurants within a mile and a half of the campus, and an airport nearby, "something almost none of them have." He says they consider the proximity of food, lodging and transportation to the campus "a blessing" for travel purposes.

He introduced a fact book that he said "basically dispels all the myths about Liberty", and that even we would be surprised by some of what's in the book. You can download the book from this link:

I thought this would be good information for the thread, straight from President Falwell himself.

Great stuff. But he's not a great closer if they are only 'close to where we want them' I thought he was the greatest closer on the face of the Earth in the History of Mankind and beyond!

Did they say 'Yes'?

Here's what I got out of that, and this is assuming that what Rmiller wrote is an accurate summary of Jerry's comments.

1. There's multiple scenarios but we'll know nothing until the SB meeting. (I wonder if that means the CUSA could be losing members)

2. JMU

3. If JMU declines again, we're in. Meaning, he's changed the minds of the SB presidents.

I think we all have accepted that JMU is the SBC's first choice, but all indications are that JMU would really rather go elsewhere. The question then becomes, would JMU actually accept an offer to join a conference they really don't want to be in, just to keep us from getting it? Some have suggested they would. I personally believe that while there have certainly been indications that there are people in power at JMU who hold us in disdain, when push comes to shove they would do what is actually best for them. They have a little more work to do to be FBS ready, and when they are there, I suspect C-USA or the MAC will have a spot for them.

Not only was I present for his comments, I also went back and listened to the recording, replaying parts of it as necessary to capture his exact words. I am confident it is an accurate summary, and the direct quotes are indicated as such, but given the long-running nature of the topic and the rumors that have been posted in the past, I understand your skepticism. Thanks for listening!

Nothing against you. My skepticism isn't personal, just natural!

On a separate but similar note, you wouldn't happen to have access to the recording would you? Enough access to post it on here? I'd love to give it a listen as well.

I'm not sure it's a great idea to post the excerpts, let alone the recording. If I were a SBC president reading what has been posted here, I wouldn't be happy, and I'm not so sure JLFJR would be either. Although I'm sure it was neither, it quite frankly came across as a bit presumptuous and condescending.

Not really. I mean, yes, I believe we have had conversations with other conferences than the Sun Belt. However, if we don't get an invitation it will be a pretty big PR bust. We've made a lot of being FBS ready. So, the logical thing is to soften the possible blow by always having "options".

I think our Sun Belt chances are good, but I don't think we have a shot at all with anyone else in the current environment.
As big as Benny Hinn?

Why would Jerry Jr make public comments, that he would be uncomfortable with people mentioning on a public forum?

That was my first thought when I saw the video featuring our very own Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost putting Liberty's name on something associated with Billy Hinn. Others within Liberty had to know that this was happening, I doubt Godwin went rogue on this.

Are faculty meetings open to the public?

Let me rephrase, if something was that sensitive, why would he say it in a faculty meaning? They're just faculty...

I could understand your point if he made those statements to just the athletic department. But in that case, I doubt anyone from the athletic department would post sensitive information on FlameFans. I just don't think Jr would make sensitive statement, pertaining to athletics, to the faculty.

Define "public." The student body was encouraged to watch online, and the video is publicly available. Furthermore, the N&A quoted comments from the meeting. I would call that "public."
