Check flight records and one could make the inference that is what his intentions were CinciFlame. Just because he and JB arent saying on twitter and facebook "HEY EVERYBODY WE ARE JUMPING ON OUR PLANE AND GOING TO MEET WITH (insert university president here)" doesnt mean it didnt happen.

I've read lots of message boards about this flight and that flight. Billy Donavan had already bought a horse farm in Lexington KY before Cal was hired. Just asking how we know these visits happened.

Just because someone on a message board said it happened doesn't mean it did, bj. It is a valid question that doesn't deserve you summarily dismissing it.

That's why I mentioned checking flight records. Information is available to help answer that sort of question and it can be had with a little searching. According to the flight tracker on FlightAware.com there was a departure from Lynchburg to JOnesboro, AR (Arkansas State), then a flight from there to Monroe, LA (ULM), then there was a flight from Lynchburg to Statesboro (Georgia Southern). Based on that information, its pretty safe to assume that JLFJR wasn't going to those places for pleasure flights.

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The University of Massachusetts' decision to leave Mid-American Conference football is being felt all the way down in Sun Belt country.

As a result, some other decisions about getting to the dance, if going from the upper level of the FCS to anonymity in the FBS is just that, might have been hastened on Wednesday.

UMass has hardly done anything to warrant being coveted by any FBS conference - going a combined 2-22 in its first two seasons on the big-boy level of Division I - but the Minutemen's struggling football program will become a free agent after the 2015 season.

UMass might be forced to keep that status, and become an FBS independent, but the Sun Belt Conference will surely kick some tires because the Minutemen don't plan to go back to the FCS.

I'm really at the point where I don't think this is going to happen and I'm ok with that. My wish would be for LU to shift towards a basketball mindset rather than football, it is much easier to have national exposure and success in basketball than at our level in football, and even at the lower tier FBS level. I don't see any reason with our facilities and finances that if we really committed to the program and not accepting mediocrity, that we can't be a Butler, Florida Gulf Coast, VCU, or a Dayton. We can get on the national stage at our level in basketball if we really committed.

The two do not have to be mutually exclusive. I really am not sure what we could have shifted from our football emphasis that could have significantly impacted hoops.

Not accepting bad coaching, like we are obviously doing now. The fact that Layer is still employed shows to me how little is cared about basketball. Just my $.02

I get your point. But we certainly have not been shy in pouring resources into both hoops facilities and budget in spite of our football expenses.

On a completely unrelated note, they have started a poll over on the Sun Belt board about which school should be offered the 12th berth in their league. Frankly I am shocked we haven't had more FlameFans blow up that poll. But I agree that it will have zero impact on anything. Just making an observation.

Because 1) We aren't IN the SBC and 2) it's not like it makes a difference. It's the SBC Board. Who cares what goes on over there :dontgetit

I agree and disagree with you. Our problem isn't necessarily with accepting bad coaching. Our problem is with looking at one positive and letting that block our vision from all of the negative. Layer got an extension because he won five consecutive games. Because he still has a few years on his contract, we aren't going to eat that yet.

We give our coaches every resource in the world, and then when they don't succeed, we pretend like they did.

I am with Sly though, basketball and football do not have to be mutually exclusive anymore. There is too much money in football, which is why schools like Duke are starting to invest in the game.

Probably because there is no point in people from this board going over there. It does our school zero favors and fuels the ignorance over there.

If the SB doesn't offer an invite we can't say that the administration didn't do everything possible. That's a huge deal for Jr. to be flying around to the SB schools. It's a good sign that they're at least willing to meet with him. If Liberty wasn't being carefully considered I don't think they would even entertain him.
