If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

I googled it and it seems that the Sun Belt Conference bylaws require a supermajority vote of the school presidents to approve an invitation. Which I think is fancy talk for 75%.

The more I read the SBC board the more I realize no one knows anything. What really made it obvious was the talk about teams breaking off and forming their own conference. Zero thought went into how stupid of an idea that was.

I think the only way we get in is to offer some financial compensation as a buy in to the conference. I know we don't want to flaunt our money, but remember we're dealing with several schools with very limited financial resources. If I remember right UL- Monroe has a football budget of around 5 million. Agreeing not to accept tv money or paying for travel expenses when western conference teams visit or other financial considerations could go a long way.

Makes good sense. Makes us a better conference mate/team player as well. I believe several schools are staring see that we would not be a liability.

HA. If we need 6 or 7 I'm still all in. I wasn't aware of this Super Majority wrinkle.

Don't forget the two non football playing schools also get a vote. That doesn't help or cause as they're both from the west. I'm afraid Liberty will get passed over again.

I think if memory serves, supermajority is 2/3. With 11 members that amounts to 7.33 votes (basically 7) Now if its written into the bylaws that it requires 3/4 then you would be correct.

If we do get the invite and this year becomes the transition year, this dream season (10-2 outright Big South Championship) with nothing to show for it will happen because I am a fan, that's just how its been for me and my teams in the past year.
I will take the blame if this happens I am sorry to all of Flames Nation in advance.

that's true BYD...now if it IS 3/4 then it would still only be 8 votes in favor and if Jon and his source are accurate that would mean we have 5 or 6 in our corner. 9 votes would be 4/5 which makes me wonder why you don't just ask for unanimous consent since you would only need 2 more votes at that point

CinciFlame wrote:BJ that's official. Idaho and NMSU doesn't gets vote, but the 2 basketball playing schools do. Not going to happen for us in my opinion.
If it's official, then provide everyone the link.

I'm not sure why you guys had such a long debate on the # of vote requirements, multiple articles were posted on here that said 75%. Btw 8.25 is 75% of 11 so the way I was taught if it's less than .5 you round down. So 8 votes seems like the logical #.

Offering a membership invitation to Lynchburg, Va.-based Liberty University is one way to get there

As the world’s largest Christian university, founded in 1971 by Rev. Jerry Falwell, it would be the Sun Belt’s only religious-oriented member. Unlike most Sun Belt schools, it also has an extensive enrollment of online students.

Liberty’s football team went 8-4 last season and 6-5 in 2012 under ex-Kansas and former University of Buffalo coach Turner Gill.

Its athletic department is well-funded, and it is prepared to jump up to FBS play.

But the Flames, current FCS Big South Conference members, have not had enough support to garner a Sun Belt invite in the past. They’ve applied for SBC membership, but it remains to be seen if they’ll have sufficient support this year.

At least 75-percent approval from SBC members is needed to issue an invite.

Well if Jon is correct we have 7 votes which is not insignificant so it may not be as out of reach as you think (I was hoping you would be able to find where in the bylaws it mandates a 4/5 majority is indicated
