It's a smart bet. Betting the long shot rarely pays off.

I'm hoping for a repeat of last year with men and women's team coming home with hardware to put in the trophy case. I'm worried that it may be HPU's year with their men and women's teams.

The women are the favorites I think. Liberty is battle tested as far as the postseason. High Point has only made it past the semifinals 3 times since joining the conference, and has 5 losses in their first game (the last four as the higher seed, including one as the #1 seed). Im banking on Liberty at this point but your concern is warranted.

High Point is the new Winthrop in the Big South. By that I mean you will see more and more favoritism headed their way. TV games, scheduling perks, like last 2 games of the week at home, etc. their campus has the money and curb appeal and KK knows they are NOT leaving the league so why not help boost their profile.

I explained what I meant by that BJ... Read my post. Obviously they don't have the tournament wins, but the conference will do what it can to help them in every way. Also the head of officiating is a High Point grad. That's a big conflict of interest in most of the real world.

Not on the Women's side. And I'm not sure someone who graduated before most people were born really has a huge conflict of interest. Plus, I'm fairly certain he assigns for more conferences than the Big South.

PH always has a comment about everything, with no knowledge of anything. I usually don't make a post unless I got pretty good facts. Men's basketball this week, HP got POY and FOY. Just another fact to back my comments. And the numbers of those weekly winners aren't nearly impressive as others in the league. Oh well believe what you may.. The one thing about Liberty Christians they are usually naive.

I was commenting on your statement about the head of officials. One is a Radford grad the other graduated High Point in 1967. When Karl Hess did LU games did people think HE was biased towards LU? Do the assignors assign more than one league? These are questions who answers I know. But you keep on. The Bolded part gave me a good chuckle

I had already read your post, BSK, hence my comment. The conference can do everything they can short of rigging games, but if they aren't making NCAA Tournament appearances and (eventually) winning games in the tournament, High Point really isn't going to be able to do much for the conference's stature within the NCAA as a whole. What made Winthrop such a major player and a boon for the conference in the Marshall era was they were winning games against other mid-majors AND making annual NCAA appearances AND even won a game or two within the tournament itself. Until HPU gets to that level, they really arent going to boost the conference as much as you suggest.

You lost me when you mentioned the word 'facts' and how HP got the Player of the YEAR and the Freshman of the YEAR last week? Maybe if you said POW/FOW it would lend a bit more credibility.. but Noreen guarded Rowsey the last time we spoke too so... carry on

If Scott Cherry doesn't win coach of the year it's a sham. After losing Allan Chaney, High Point lost 9 consecutive Division I games. Since then, they've won 12 out of 14. Remarkable.

I never said the BS will hand them the trophy, I did say they will help them every way.... Does Cherry deserve COY, yes. Does Brown deserve POY, yes.

Is men's head officials a HP grad, yes. Did HP get to play on Friday night when every other team played on Saturday, meaning HP got extra day of rest for tournament, yes. John Brown was academically ineleigble per NCAA rules as a freshman, therefore he should pay his own way as a freshman, do you actually think he did? Allen Chaney is 27 years old, VT doctors said no way he should play, but HP doctors said it's okay?? Thankfully he didn't die. Last week of the season HP had 2 home games, yes, that shouldn't happen, 1 road 1 home to finish the season. Who played in the most ESPN U games, HP.

Excuse me Dingaling, POW week was Wallace, FOW was Perez for the final week.

Karl Hess never called an LU game as long as I been watching. Not sure how far you go back PH. Maybe in the 80's pre Big South days.

Continue to watch in the coming years and I will come back these post eventually.

Never back peddled. Giving you facts to think about...

The BS has been jealous and hated Liberty for years. In the 90's the tournament was called the Liberty invitational, which the men couldn't win and every team was envious of the Flames. Dr Ron Bradley coined that phrase BTW.

How's your cult following with all the naive FF posters going??

Big Blow to CSU. I believe I am calling this game for BSN. By the way I will be on the TV Call for BSN on the Liberty/Winthrop game as well. VMI's Wade Branner will be on Play by Play on the Liberty game.

Shameless self promotion. I LOVE it!

Losing Nimley cashes in CSU's chips.

Its like I said, they can help them in every way they can, but until they start having some significant success on the level of Winthrop when Captain Purpleface was roaming the sidelines, all that help (ESPNU games and what not) really isnt going to do any good, and that isn't going to benefit the conference in the long run.

BTW gotta love Car Talk

FOW of the week for the final week was Keon Johnson of Winthrop...

Also, Liberty played 2 home games in the final week...so that shouldn't have happened either? 4 teams played 2 home games the final week, 4 teams played two roadies, and 4 teams played one of each. HPU was one of those teams. Maybe the League was just trying to mask its HPU favoritism by including three other teams (including Liberty) in this huge advantage of two home games during the last week.

HPU played in 2 of the 4 ESPNU games that the Big South had...so did Radford...so did Campbell. Again, nice work by the Big South to hide that favoritism by letting RU and CU in on the TV fun.
