First of all, I'll never be one to insult Nick Saban's intelligence, I think he is one of the smartest coaches in NCAA. However, I am quickly losing respect for him.

It is quite apparent that he has finally realized that running pro formation, with a pocket style QB, 99% of the time is dying. He's getting beat by teams like Texas A&M and Auburn. Other teams like FSU and Ohio State are on the verge of becoming powerhouses again (I could argue that FSU is already at that level). Meanwhile, Saban is realizing that no matter how many times he signs a #1 recruiting class, he's always going to struggle with a guy like Gus Malzahn.

More seasoned coaches are being pushed out of these national powerhouses because younger coaches come along with new systems. Look at how great Pete Carrol was at USC. He was great until a guy named Chip Kelley went to Oregon and introduced a completely different style of offense to the Pac 12. Look at Mack Brown at Texas, he was great until Art Briles came along at Baylor. Nick Saban has been experiencing success that may put him at the top of best Head Coaches ever in college football, but this year Gus Malzahn came back to Auburn and led the Tigers to possibly the best turnaround season in history.

Now here is why I'm am losing all respect for Nick Saban. As smart as he is, instead of trying to out-coach Malzahn and figuring out how to beat this offense, he's trying to make it illegal for Malzahn to run the offense. And possibly the worst part about it is that he's using "player safety" as his reasoning. In addition, Saban hates the hurry up offense so much that he's attempting to manipulate the rules committee. Bama just added UL Monroe to their 2015 schedule. Of course, that will be a huge payout to ULM. UL Monroe's HC, Todd Berry just so happens to be on the rules committee. Am I supposed to believe that adding ULM to their schedule is just a coincidence? What do you guys think of this? Is Saban really acting in concern for "player safety?"

I think those guys who you think got pushed out have a total of 10 championships or so in the last 15 years and the guys who pushed them out have 0.

I didn't read any of this post but I am annoyed at the whole 10 second between play rule Saban is trying to push through.

Safety?? Oh please

That is all I have to add.

Saban can't push anything through. Either the committee votes for it or they don't, and Saban ain't on the committee.

Carol left because between sanctions at USC and Chip Kelly running an insane offense.

Brown was pushed out of Texas because Art Brile came in and took over. Look at how great Texas was...until Art Briles went to Baylor.

Saban isn't pushing this rule for no reason. He got beat by his instate rival and he's starting to realize that no matter how great his recruiting classes are, Malzahn is going to be a major thorn in his side.

Then if Saban's future success isn't affected by up-tempo offense and Gus Malzahn, why would he be proposing the rule change?

The article reads, "Auburn’s tempo offense didn’t beat Alabama; Saban’s game day decision-making did."

Sure, Saban's poor decision making in the final moments is what lost him the game. But let's not sit here and pretend like he lost to LSU or South Carolina. He lost to Auburn, a team that had went 3-9 the year before. This was Malzahns FIRST year at Auburn and he had them competing with Bama for four quarters. That alone is what made Saban crap his pants.

I think Saban is a heck of a coach, maybe, the best coach in the history of D1 college football. But his past doesn't make him invincible. Do you honestly believe that he's really speaking out in concern for player safety?

I completely disagree, it is up to the defenses to figure it out. It is not like the fast past offense idea is something new it is just being done more.

Creating a rule to slow down the game is not good for the game of football.

Of course nobody can really be right here because this is all based on opinion. I just don't think slowing the game down is good for the game.
