Can't tell you how many times I have seen plows driving down a snowy road with the blade riding high. Or they just sit on the side of 460 waiting. Not sure what for, just waiting.

I have 4 day weekend already planned this weekend which may now turn into a 5 day. I'll take it!
I have wanted 1 big storm this year and finally it looks like we are going to get it up here. After this passes I will welcome 75 degree weather as soon as possible.
flamehunter wrote:Those would be VDOT, not the city. I think the city has more than half the number of plows that Atlanta has... Really. I heard the Atlanta mayor say that they have 30 plows. The city plows do a decent job, and I have never been unable to get to work due to snow. This won't be any different.Sly Fox wrote:And let me guess, Lynchburg still hasn't invested in snow plows. They have snow ploiws. They just don't know how, where, and when to use them. LUconn wrote:my favorite is seeing the road graders out on the roads "plowing". I'd be worried about the damage being done to the asphalt except they repave everything every 12 months anyway.Haven't seen a grader plowing here in a while, but they are a pretty common sight in places that get lots of snow. I followed one for a bit when they finally reopened US 29 back in Dec '09; it was plowing the unopened lane, BIG blade up front.

I am hoping to travel to Richmond from Lynchburg today but I won't be able to leave Lynchburg until 4pm. I know the snow might have started here already, but I also know that it's supposed to start later further east. Unfortunately, I am driving a sports car that will lose control with a quarter of an inch of snow. Do you guys think I should risk making the drive at 4? Or should I just plan to stay in Lynchburg for the night?

I think you will be fine. It's going to be later and you will be out in front of it

I love Subarus! I drive a Mazda RX-8. It's a heck of car, it just hates the snow.
