Yeah, when I say risky I simply meant financially risky. A move wouldn't change anything for the church as far as its culture goes. That is very true.

Yeah, they've never done THAT before. HA. Attendance and offerings for a lot of churches TRBC included are way down.

I disagree about the financial risk of moving it to its current location. It was a no brainer with easier access and better facility potential than the old building. Plus, you place it right next to the other Jerry Falwell 'branded' entity and it works.

The financial risk was lower moving up to the mountain, but the cultural risk was higher. This proposed move flips that upside down. All that said, it would be great for TRBC to have a stand-alone campus near LU.

I watched the video and johnathan mentioned that they have 5 million of debt right now. If they build the new facility they will be debt free through the sale of the building to LU and the land for the civic center. Not a fan of having the civic center right there but I'm more interested in what LU would do with the church. Would LCA move as well?

I am a huge fan of getting TRBC off of Liberty's campus and having their own dedicated property. I hated that they moved there to being with. I just hope they can stay afloat if this goes through.

Sounds like they have done their homework, so that is encouraging.

This explains why the Civic Center is no longer shown at the mall on the master plan. I was very concerned with traffic from a civic center at the mall. This makes much more since as far as traffic and accessibility for Liberty.

From what I recall in church yesterday, Pastor Jonathan said that should the tentative deal go through, TRBC would be able to build a completely new complex for the church and LCA without any debt at all. As in, they're $5 million in debt now where they are, should the deal go through, they'd be debt free and have brand-new facilities. At least that's my understanding of it, and if so, it seems like a no-brainer for the church and good for LU having the civic center closer to campus.

So, I wonder what the prospects for the mall will be. Nothing like having a shopping mall anchored by a large office. At least there was a somewhat silver lining when a Civic Center and hotel/conference center planned.

The TRBC Danville Campus is still growing. Around 500 attending every Sunday now. They meet in an old store rented from a shopping center. Heard they just bought the whole shopping center and the monthly payment will be lower than the old rent. I think it triples their space.

I finally got a chance to do a tour of campus before the game on Saturday for the first time since September, and I was blown away by how big the new dorm is going to be. I snapped a pic from my phone and will try to remember to upload it later today. It makes all the other buildings on campus look miniature. And they're building 4 of these??

Did you guys see where this spring Liberty's new full-power television station goes on air.
Taking its name from the Liberty Channel, it will be called “The New WTLU24.” Its programming format will be news, weather, sports, and talk. No other station in our market provides 24/7 coverage like our new station will. And, it will give students in Digital Arts, Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism and Digital Media real-world experience working side-by-side with the professionals who will run the station.

Bay News 9 seems a strange outfit to model. I worked for one of the Time Warner news channels and the technology is very accessible. Filling content shouldn't be a huge challenge. Filling with compelling content will be.

The Brighthouse news operations in Tampa & Orlando operate on a separate business model than some of the others like the Time Warner channels and CLTV. I suspect the Time Warner outfits may soon be a casualty of the proposed merger with Comcast.

Being the sportfishing fan I am, I think a big game fishing program featuring this Virginia based ministry would make for some great content. I'm sure a couple of LU students, like the ones that competed in the deer hunting contest on the Outdoor Channel would have a blast tagging along and filming the action!
