Is herndon healthy? I know there was talk of major surgery at the end of last year when they shut him down. If hes healthy i think we can make some real noise. Offense will be markedly better especially if close has a bounce back year. Really think seiz and tray roberts make big impacts

Tomans coaches corner was informative. Herndon did not have surgery had rest. Lambert herndon and lyons the likely weekend guys with perritt closing and sliding to cf. close moves to catcher, seiz to 1b and kimble led the fall team in hitting. Sounds like he will start at3b. He also said britt and a juco are dead even at short. Spoke very highly of parker bean and stafford and stated it was likely that he that they would be mid week starters.

Toman didn't mention it but Nick Paxton has a broken leg and will miss the season. That opens up an outfield spot.

That's a tough break. Perritt appears to be the only lock to start on opening day. We lose Size, Cordell and Paxton out for the season. Lacik and Tray Roberts along with Shepherd. Toman mentioned him as a possible starter. We will need 4 good OFer's atleast with Perritt spending a lot of time on the mound.

Outfield probably will be a question with Paxson (not Paxton just to clarify). Goodson, Close and Battley will probably be trying to get in the outfield rotation as well

Come on, guys. If you use significant reaches for my Encounter thread, surely this qualifies as a BJism.

Sammy T is also missing. There were 43 names on the roster before Christmas, only 36 now. I know redshirts and final roster was not set when team went home for the holidays. Some Redshirts may be missing from roster.

It sucks to play in the fall expecting to be on the roster in the spring and then realizing your name is not on the list.

I heard Medical Redshirt for Sammy. Toman brought in a lot of new players this year, there will be a lot of redshirts which probably will not be listed on roster page but will still be in school and a part of the team. There may also be some upperclassmen not brought back. Final roster decisions will probably be made by Tuesday if they haven't been made already. My understanding, and I may be wrong is that Nick P. will still count as being on the roster even though he will be on a Med. Redshirt so that means 34 active roster players. Maybe they were waiting to be sure who was academically eligible, I know some kids had uncomfortable Christmas breaks. We should know within a week, I wouldn't write anything in to players not listed on roster right now, most of the redshirts have been notified.

Actually you can take information from them not being listed. The way the rules are now, even redshirts have to be counted into the 35 man roster. If you want someone to "redshirt" and they are not in the 35 man roster - they can't practice, lift, workout, get services, or really do anything with the team or get any benefit the team gets. They basically become a regular student for the year and everything baseball related can be done on their own. Also, if a player is on scholarship he is automatically counted on that 35 man roster. So basically if Nick was on any scholarship, that's a roster spot no matter if he's hurt for the year or not.

Thank you for the clarification. Does this mean that players not listed are not part of the team? Can they use the facilities to work out? Do they lose eligibility?

It does mean that players listed are not part of the team. I am not 100% sure if they can or can't use the facilities, but I know they can't do anything with the team - lift, practice, etc. As for eligibility, all athletes have 5 years to play 4 seasons per NCAA, so if this is there red shirt year then they don't lose eligibility and still have 4 years left. If they have already used a redshirt year or had to sit out for something else, then yea - a year is gone for them.

That's why JUCO has become even bigger for baseball. Teams still over recruit knowing they have to cut down to 35, but the players can't really redshirt like they used to. If you aren't not on 35 man roster, you have a choice, transfer to another school and sit out and wait to play, go to a JUCO and play right away, or stick it out at school and hope for the best next year.
