Yacht Rock wrote:And the funny thing is, he has been missing from many episodes this season because he said he doesn't always enjoy doing the show anyways. The hilarious thing (and it remains to be seen) is that it is very possible he isn't in many of the upcoming episodes next year to begin with which means they will get away with their "apology" and "suspension" without doing anything really. Anything to satisfy the militant folks on the other side.
Good point. But he is always there at the end for prayer.

Whole thing might be your typical Hollywood style publicity stunt. More money, more eyeballs for A&E when they bring him back.

It's aa gamble that they WILL come back. Plenty of companies will be knocking on their door offering more money and more 'freedom' to move their show to their network. Early scuttlebutt is FOX network in interested.

Uneducated old backwoods redneck insults gays and lesbians...happens daily. Nothing to see here. HRC/*inset other gay rights organization acronymns here* is just bored until New Mexico's supreme court rules on gay marriage in that state (supposedly was going to happen this month).

I thought Phil was well educated? He has a bachelor's degree and a master's in education. He spent several years teaching in the public school system.

Triggerfinger happy resident gay boy makes quick stereotypical comment about guy hunting in the woods without doing any research. Nothing to see here, I'm just bored and don't feel like writing any "Merry Christmas, good news is you are not disabled, bad news is you don't get a check and should go back to work," letters.

Part of the interview included this little tidbit regarding growing up in the Jim Crow South:
"I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person," Robertson claims. "Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I'm with the blacks, because we're white trash."

He adds, "They're singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, 'I tell you what: These doggone white people'—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues."

The whole thing is disappointing, the messaging from the gay groups and A&E is maddening, but none of it is surprising.

But like I read someone saying, this is about A&E and GLAAD's horrific values, not about free speech.

Is he saying that he grew up "poor white" and had a lot in common with the poor blacks he worked beside? I think he's saying they were happier than he was at that point in his life, because they were godly? The knuckle head (like most of us) had to hit rock bottom before he found Faith in God. Is he saying more Faith and less government dependence is the way to go?

I like his follow up statement. Sharp contrast to the hate and vitriol coming his way

“My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together.

"However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.”

We can ALL learn from that

Not surprising to see the family stick together through this. They released a statement.

http://duckcommander.com/news/robertson ... -statement
We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E's decision. We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Phil would never incite or encourage hate.We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right. We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty. Again, thank you for your continued support of our family.

Dr. Benjamin S. Carson
The recent controversy over Phil Robertson of A&E's Duck Dynasty is symptomatic in how society has migrated from the principles that founded our nation. Our nation was founded by men who had strong Judeo Christian beliefs. As we move away from that precise belief system there are going to be more conflicts of this nature. The real question we must ask ourselves is have we improved human nature to the point where we no longer regard the Judeo Christian principles that founded our nation as worthwhile. Additionally we must ask is it important for people to be able to express their beliefs or more important to hide their beliefs. Unless we can openly discuss these kinds of situations we become a plastic society in which no one actually knows what anyone truly stands for. It is time for us to grow up and act like mature individuals who can discuss our differences hopefully and perhaps come to some reasonable understanding. This controversy is the very reason I rail so strongly against political correctness.

Remember the words of Saul Salinsky the original community organizer who said "Never to have a discussion with your adversary for that humanizes them and your job is to demonize them". Let us move away from this senseless philosophy and begin to think of ways that we can uplift and encourage each other and not tear each other down. This must be done through civil and cogent discourse.

There was no insulting of the LGBT..he just said he thought it was a sin. Are you offended by his comments (serious question)

Well when he starts getting into parts of the anatomy and calling it illogical and say that a woman has more to offer, personally no, I'm not offended. It just shows his lack of understanding.

However I can see how some would view it as insulting. Plus there are a lot of gay men out there who...well...don't do anal sex. My fiance and I being two of them, and I can definitely see why that group of gay men would be offended.

Here's the thing that was missed. He said 'That's just me'. You disagree but say 'That's just you'. You also say others in the Gay Community disagree but that's just them. He finds the vagina more interesting than the anus. The fact that he can't understand the logic of those who don't is neither offensive nor ignorant. At least no more so then those in the Gay Community who are not like you. IMO, it's another level of the eternal question (at least for heterosexuals): Are you a Leg or Breast guy? Considering my wife is 6'1 my choice is self evident :D
But again, what was missed is the lack of condemnation hate or judgement in his statements. He left the judgement of ALL people to The Almighty, where it should be.

Phil's graphic description seems to have hit a nerve with people on both sides of the issue.

I saw a CNN news clip this morning were Phil was preaching in a church in Pennsylvania, the CNN anchor acted like she had never heard such awful speech. All he did was quote scripture, she didn't know that? Maybe she should do some research, read the Bible a little, before going on national TV and discussing it.

If anyone was uneducated in this comment it was you. You assumed Phil Robertson was uneducated. You did not do any research on the person, just shot off your mouth making you seem to be the uneducated one. Seems that is what the queer community is good at lately.

And I admitted as such way up there after I was called out on it. Or did you conveniently miss that?
Also, don't call me queer.
