Yea they don't really seem overrated, lost on a ridiculous shot against #14 VCU and play good defense, and they didn't lose anyone and gained some guys since last season.

However, I don't think it'll be more than a 25 pt margin tops, they play too slow paced of a game to really run it up too much more than that.

bballfan84 wrote:I think we lose by 40...UVA D is ridiculous. Overrated HA hardly. They are not a fun team to watch and wont make many highlights but their D is elite and that is what carries this team to a top 25 season. We struggle to score against UNCW this one is going to be UGLY!!!
We will struggle scoring and they won't but forty seems like a bit much. They are the 343rd paced team. If they win by forty the final would be something like 72-32, surely they don't double us.

How can a team be over rated that has no real expectations nationally? I think some people are confused about the definition of over rated.

Nice switch to a 3-2 by Layer.
Moving the ball with a purpose that half
Key D breakdowns by UVA the last 4
The announcers make Sanders injury sound bad, yet he's back and playing. Such Drama Queens. Unlike SCAR

Down 30 <4 and not putting your bench in? Not sure why Layer doesn't give everyone some minutes. UVA emptied theirs

The ESPN3 announcers talked about LU scoring over 50 points against UVa's defense would be a moral victory.

A few traditionally contradictory situations that occurred consistently tonight:

UVA has multiple shooters wide open for a 3 pointer because LU's D is packed in tight. Yet we can't get the rebound?
UVA has 3 or sometimes 4 crashing in to get the defensive rebound. Yet they're getting transition buckets after that?

Overall, that was just a terrible game. Even the first half was pretty poor. They just got cold which allowed us to make a late run. I just don't see anything that we're good at (except for FT shooting! 100% on the night! I'm actually not being sarcastic. I was pretty pumped about that. How often did that kill us last year?)

1- long shots equal long rebounds. That means if you have things packed down inside rebounds will go over your heads.
2- team speed, knowing where you are supposed to go and getting there.

The formula to beating a BCS caliber team is to have a perfect match up or to shoot the cover off the ball....

Quite frankly a Layer coached team will struggle in these games, reason to back it up;
1- offense is too slow, work the ball for 33 seconds then have to throw up a shot
2- not enough athletes on the floor to create their own shot, like a Blair or Dees use to....

Examples, when LU beat UVA in 08-09, Curry and Smith could shoot & score! (Yes there is a difference) plus UVA was down and thus a coaching change happened, etc... In 98-99 the LU team held Staples to 2 points, although Nolan had 30. Larry Jackson & Co shot the cover off the ball. Also UVA was bad that year also, another coaching change happen coincidently.

this wasn't a case of long rebounds.

It kinda was. But UVA's front line is just much bigger than ours. They had some serious manly rebounds!

Their frontcourt had a lot of height and length as well making it hard for our guys to get off shots and they deflected a lot of passes that became TOs. We did a lot of fumbling, bumbling, stumbling in this game. Hopefully we got it all out of our system :(

The poor rebounding had very little to do with size or long rebounds, it was a complete lack of effort. No boxing out, just ball-watching. I know this sounds like grandpa, but our guys need to focus on fundamentals. UVA wasn't THAT good, we were just that bad.
