Shouldn't your location signature read "North Cackalacky"? I hope you weren't an English major... I jest. :D

Have you tried Cackalacky sauce? I really like it, but my wife won't cook with it, so my bottle is still half full.
Yes it should and I was not an English major. Shouldn't your username be Alabama24 (I know that the NC is lowercase in my username, but I did it purposely.)? No I am not a fan of Auburn. I am just tired of Alabama winning all the time and all the bandwagon fans. Did you even graduate from Bama? If you didn't and graduated from LU then why don't you support Liberty first. I graduated from LU and I support Liberty first. I have tried Cackalacky sauce and I love it. Why don't you cook with it during the times when you are cooking for yourself only?

Nope. So what? What does attending (or graduating) from a school have to do with which team you follow?

[For the sake of some yankees, you should reply in the other thread. Some people think this thread actually means something. ]

That would require me to cook in the first place.

I will reply to this on the other thread. I am sorry for getting off topic on this thread.

Now to bring this thread back to topic I have heard from my Winthrop alumni boss who used to be a higher up at Winthrop that they will be deciding soon to add Football. He is really tight with the President at Winthrop still and they are building their program in the same way that UNC Charlotte was built. Winthrop will be in the Big South.

Winthrop football will add stability to the league. I think they're the only one of the top 3 (Liberty, Coastal being the other 2) Big South schools not clamoring to get out.

I hadn't heard anything on my end about football definitely being added at WU, though the longer this new president is 'in office', the more I believe it will eventually happen (since she never shies away from talking about football, when the former president never talked about it). I still need to see how they are going to make it work financially before I'm really believing it will happen, but there seems to be positive momentum for it to happen.

As for the 'not clamoring' to leave. I can understand if you guys are wanting to go FBS, that it makes sense to want to move, becaue obviously the Big South isn't an FBS conference. But I still don't quite understand what major benefit there is to move to the SoCon, or even the CAA (because apparently Coastal fans are still obsessed with that). What can be done in those leagues that you can't do in the Big South? That all being said, if WU ever changed leagues, I'd be fine with it, but I don't feel like moving really would change anything substantially (see Elon...what exactly has moving done for them?).

A move to the CAA when George Mason, VCU and ODU were there would've been good for Winthrop Basketball...now, the only upward move for Winthrop in basketball would be the A-10. Elon's move to the SoCon years ago got them to a better FCS and, with Davidson and CofC, a better bball conference at the time. The move to the CAA is similar now that Appy State, Georgia Southern, Davidson and Charleston are gone.

As for Coastal to the CAA...I thought they were still wanting admission to the SoCon?

My thing with that is, ok, great, Elon is in a 'better' conference. But what has that done for them? Have they accomplished anything since they've moved that they couldn't have done in the Big South. I guess that's my biggest thing about a move. I just don't feel like it really changes much, except for the teams that come to your gym/field and the logo you use on letterhead. Which if you want those things, that's fine...but nothing really changes with your own program due to the move itself. Unless there is major TV exposure differences, or major revenue stream differences, it seems like a conference move is just done for the sake of moving and making it try and look like you're actually 'improving' your program, when it is really just changing the teams on your schedule.

Editorial in JMU Student Newspaper wrote:Conference move will cost students too much

By Howard Lubert | Contributing columnist |

JMU recently released a feasibility study regarding a potential athletics conference move from Division I-AA (Football Championship Subdivision) to Division I-A (Football Bowl Subdivision). We encourage the JMU community to explore the pros and cons of this idea for the university. We do so, in part, because the financial projections in the Carr report, which to date is the most publicized exploration of this possible move are, in our opinion, questionable.

I hope that this is not like the Georgia Southern situation when Georgia Southern didn't have the finances to move up, but somehow got the finances to move up. Hopefully this really affects JMU, they will not move up, the Sun Belt invites us, and we accept. Is this source even prominent anyway?

EKU popping up again... Sun Belt's 12th team?
Louisville Post-Courier wrote:Eastern Kentucky University considering trying to join FBS
School first would need a conference invitation

Eastern Kentucky University could be an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision member as soon as 2016.

EKU President Michael Benson said the earliest the school could apply for reclassification from FCS status to the highest level of college football would be in the spring. The Colonels, who are considering making the move, would then be in a two-year transition period before becoming a full-fledged bowl-eligible program in 2016.

There will be more bowls next year to fill the gap based on all of the recent realignment. I still would take a nice little bowl game that no one has ever heard of over the FCS Playoffs any day. But I recognize that is an unpopular position by many on this board.

Yet there is no guarantee that if we DO become Bowl Eligible we will actually go to a Bowl. Especially if we join the Sun Belt. It's why I advocate for a good fit as opposed to first offer

Exactly, we could be the third or fourth team in the Sunbelt or C-USA or MAC and get passed over by the 11th team from the ACC, SEC or any of the other major conferences with "at-large" teams.

With just about everything else, I would agree that a good fit is most important. But, I must disagree with you here. For one, I believe this year was rare, as far as the number of bowl eligible teams are concerned. So, I don't think this would be a major problem in the future.

Secondly, I think after a couple seasons, people will know that we have a strong fan base and we travel well. I believe our home attendance average over the past 4 or 5 years is better than like 8 Sun Belt schools. Not exactly sure, but I believe our numbers are better than most in the Sun Belt. Point being, if we go around 7-5, we should receive an offer.

Beyond that, I wouldn't refer to the Sun Belt as our future home forever, should we receive an invite. Look at what happened with TCU. They accepted an offer from the American conference, then became more attractive to the Big 12. If the Sun Belt offers, I think we need to accept right away. Once other conferences see the size of our school, and our growth plans, I think we can become really attractive, really quick. The C-USA or American Conference probably won't dip into FCS for a while, but they might snag a team from the SunBelt.

Putting all that aside though, I would rather be in the Sun Belt and miss out on bowls than be in the Big South and miss out on playoffs.

I would rather be in the Big South and make the play offs and compete for a National Title then be in the Sun Belt, finish 6-6 or 7-5 and cross our fingers and hope we get a Bowl invite. You see how well that's worked hoping for a Playoff invite. So in those y ears you are pinning for wins and a Bowl invite you could become a hyper competitive FCS program thus making us more valuable to other FBS conferences looking to expand.

We'll have to agree to disagree, Haize. Being hyper-competitive in FCS hasn't been much of a factor in the FBS invitations of the past two years. I'd rather improve while in the FBS as opposed to doing so in the FCS.
