Did you hear we are going to be tearing down the Astrodome here in Houston? It has more considerably more significance in it than Turner Field could ever imagine. And it could be argued the same vs. the dilapidated relic up on Chicago's Northside. :flamingdevil

Oh no he di'int

You could make a case that the Houston Astrodome is a National landmark. It was what caused the paradigm shift in stadium constructions Granted that now it's not up to par, but its historical significance can't be denied. The huge difference is that the Friendly Confines are still a huge draw.

As for the draw, the place only seats 41k and the Cubs finished 12th this year in attendance.
But they sell out just about every game.
The Police played Wrigley in 07. THAT was huge. Plus more events are held at Wrigley then ever were in the AstroDome. Granted Billie Jean didn't want to play Riggs on grass or it would have been there too :D

You say that like its a bad thing

The Astrodome was nowhere near as profitable as Wrigley either

For the record, the Cubs averaged 32k in a 41k stadium. And keep in mind that the Astrodome was the home of not only the Astros but also the Oilers and Houston Cougars back in the Run & Shoot glory days.

Let's face it, Wrigley is a nice place to take your shirt off in the sun and pass some time. It is not exactly packed with great significant memories beyond Bartman for most of America.

:BS you are just looking at this years number. Up until the last 2 years they topped over 3 million annually for 8 years. It's also the only other ball park not named after a team that people automatically associate a team with (Fenway being the other)
Plus the Bears played there till 1970.
No significance? Ivy covered walls? The Bleachers? Harry Carey? Ernie Banks? Yeah, no one knows about those things.
And you are right it is a PERFECT place to take your shirt off in the sun and pass a beautiful sunny Chicago afternoon. Could you do that in the Astrodome.....without getting arrested?

Oh, don't forget Old Style :D

Purple, you forget that Sly is from the part of flyover country where they handle their inferiority complex by blowing up their ego to the size of bounce-house at a child's birthday party.

Oh, and both you please...leave your shirts on. Thanks

You have 2 tickets to a Cubs Astros game. You can see them in Wrigley or the AstroDome. Which one would you chose?

What you and Roscoe do after the game is your own business

This is not a debate about baseball facilities. It is over the historical significance of stadiums. Two completely different arguments based on the decision to tear down structures.

The Astrodome was not a good place to watch baseball and certainly the ultimate pitcher's park. And given a choice between a game at Wrigley or MMP, I prefer the latter having experienced both. But I get your warm fuzzies for the "experience" even if little of consequence ever occurs there.

Again your Texas bias sly has gotten completely out of control. Considering you are always hating on the east coast bias this should be something you should be ashamed of

I am not even a fan of the Dome. I was among those supporting it being torn down. But that is not the point.

Name the top 5 events at Wrigley and see how many would crack the top ten of the Astrodome. Good luck. Plenty of great times had by the fans but a ridiculously short list of significant moments. And yes, I will acknowledge 80-year-old football games since the question is open-ended since the non-football & non-baseball events at the Astrodome would also be in play.
