Liberty goes on the road tonight in its first Division 1 game of the season against William & Mary. The Flames are coming off an opening night win against Randolph, while the Tribe dropped their opener against Hampton by a score of 77-69. Anybody making the trip out to Williamsburg tonight? I will be taking the short drive from Richmond. This is a winnable game but not exactly an easy one. Rusthoven and Thornton are tough and Tarpey can go off at any time.

Just for the second half. W&M was throwing 6-4 Marcus Thornton in Marshall's face, pretty much eliminating any chance for Davon to shoot. Thornton blocked two of Davon's 3-point attempts. There was talk of JC playing some one in the preseason, and that's probably why. Marshall isn't going to run into a ton of opposing points that big, but they had to get him in motion and get him running off screens if he was going to get any looks. The offense wasn't the issue, of course. They played 15 minutes of solid defense in the first half and 25 minutes of awful defense afterward.

Liberty came into Williamsburg Tuesday night and shot the ball well, but defensive lapses in the second half cost the Flames, as Liberty dropped their Division 1 opener by a score of 84-72 against William and Mary. Liberty got out to an early lead, paced by three point shooting from John Caleb Sanders and Davon Marshall. However, the Flames were unable to keep William and Mary’s Princeton offense off the board, and the Tribe took a 34-32 lead at the half.

Coming into the game, Liberty knew it would need to contain William and Mary Guard Marcus Thornton. The Flames did a solid job of keeping Thornton at bay for much of the game, however the Tribe’s star player was able to create match up problems at times and ended the game with 23 points. The player that really broke through and took Liberty out of this game was Freshman Omar Prewitt, who came in off the bench to contribute 18 points, including 11 in the second half.

It's a good question. Layer said in his postgame comments following the Randolph game that he only likes to play him in 3-4 minute spurts since he expends so much energy while he's out there.
