If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

Turner Field was the Gem of Ballparks in 97. They even used the exact field grass etc on their Disney Spring training area. They are not afraid to spend money. The thought was that 'If they build it they will come' Ala The MCINTYRE/Verizon Center in DC. But alas the businesses, trendy housing and transportation nodes never materialized. I put the blame on the City of Atlanta by a 75-25 margin.

I couldn't agree more. this is a smart business decision by the Braves. I personally love it since it will be closer to my parents an in laws. we shall see how the changing of infrastructure in the area goes though. and perhaps this is the final straw that breaks the will of Cobb and Gwinnett of keeping MARTA out of their counties.

Shfourteen. it won't be half empty most of the time. I can promise you that.

Wife just reminded me of something -- there are going to be some people who live around Turner Field who are going to be really hurt financially by this. Lots of people made some REALLY good coin selling parking, T-shirts, souvenirs, etc. along the streets as you headed for the stadium. Some of them probably had no other job :|

Yeah, Comisky/US Cellular is in the middle of a war zone!
It's not that bad, it's a nice ballpark, not great but it's a nice place to catch a game. Plus it's right off 90, a lot more convenient to get to than Wrigley. The White Sox will never leave South Side, nor should they that's where their history and identity is.

The upper deck is awful. You feel that if you lean forward you will tumble over and fall onto the field!
I agree it is more convenient than Wrigley, but it has the same problem as The Ted in that people go to the game and then go home. People longer at Wrigleyville. But you are right the should never leave the South Side

it only seems like they are there longer...it takes 4 hours to leave. wriglyville will follow the cubs whereever it goes.

i'm ok with and can live with the changes being made as long as it continues to make tunney and the rooftop owners furious.

I've never had long waits at the friendly confines. You have to leave US Cellular quickly to avoid the hookers and gun fire!
There are a ton of cool bars and night clubs around Wrigley. It is a monumentally better game day experience compared to the South Side

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the bars and clubs that Purple is referring to located in Boyztown, the gayborhood of Chicago?

And yes, most of those clubs are full of idiots...mostly just turned 21 twinks with no clue about anything outside of the route from their bedroom to the clubs

Yes the Manhole and Gaymart are located a few blocks away. But there are also a couple of Reggae clubs oodles of sports bars etc.
and let's be honest, the kinda heat they pack doesn't scare me like the kinda heat they pack on the South Side

I was there last year. I think you'll find more rainbows and gentrification starting about one block away.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Ted used for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta?

Yes it was. It's crazy to think a nice stadium under twenty years old is going to be demolished! I bet the A's and Ray's wouldn't mind taking it off their hands if it could be shipped!
