link doesn't work but would love to see the pic

We have come a long way in 15 years without a doubt, we have come a long way in 10 years when I was a freshmen at Liberty.

I just wish we would hurry up and take that next step! haha

I am just saying that for all the "we can't finish in the clutch" bunch...maybe ythey all would be happy if we just fired all of them and for the ones with issues with how the AD is running things maybe they'd be happy if Jerry Jr fired him too...that'd make them feel all sorts of better right

I am in that bunch that you are talking about and we can't finish in the clutch. There is absolutely no disputing that. You don't fire a coach that hasn't even had 2 years on the job.

The AD on the other hand, that is a whole other discussion...and not one that should be talked about right after a tough, emotional loss for many of us.

I probably shouldn't be posting, but here goes:
I have nothing against CCU, we handed them the game fair and square, you can't blame them for accepting the gift we offered them. However, they are not a top 4 team or even a top 10 team. They are somewhere between 15-25 if I were a voter. But that is just my opinion.
We are no better off as a program than we were 20 years ago. We had a first round draft pick 20 years ago, a couple of All-Pro's and had beaten just as many 1A programs as we have since then. We have much, much better facilities, but that is about it.
I don't blame the close losses on the guys we have on the field, they try hard and deserve better.
Gill is a great guy, but he is not an upgrade from Rocco so far. Both of them have proven they can't win a big game. In fact, you can argue that the only big game Rocco has won as a HC, is the LU game.
Our PA guy needs to learn what a football is.
Our "fans" are not good at all, especially the students that leave right after halftime and can't stay for the biggest game of the year and arguably our history. Very disappointed in everyone that left early tonight.

Answers for the above? Not sure. I know what I would do, but they don't pay me for my opinion. I love LU, will always love LU, but not sure if my health will allow me to remain as emotionally invested as I am currently. I have lived and died LU athletics for many years. I know it is just a game, but it hurts when you see something you love, spin their wheels and not be able to win when it really counts. As someone has already said, we are the national champions of moral victories and great facilities, but if you can't make the playoffs, or win the big one, they are something almost any school can achieve. Go Flames.

I completely agree with you, we handed it to them on a silver platter, not their fault for taking it. We were completely out coached in the end plain and simple.

At this point, all the "irrational" comments are becoming rational worries about the program.

I'm hopeful we win the rest of our games and improve our record in the second year much like we did under Rocco...now yes I would like to see us win games like tonight but I will be glad to see an improvement on last year's record which we still can do...or maybe we should just have a fire sale in the football program...that's what dakotafalcon and cinciflame want anyway (and from the sound of things some others...postie excluded)

Which is different from any of your other posts exactly how?

BEEJ- way to go all nihilistic on us. Can there be no middle ground? Most it be Status Quo or Fire sale? Golly, maybe you should have gone to that wedding and just bellied up at the open bar :dontgetit

nobody wants a fire sale BJ, you are once again reading into way too much into what people are saying.

There is something that needs to be done, but nobody here has the answers. Simple as that.

Yeah I am not sure what the answer is but I agree we had the talent and good teams backs in the 90s. Now we are spending a ton of money, have great facilities (this is for the school not just sports programs), and the rules aren't the issue that they once were.
This frustration is becoming a jinx/curse. After missing the playoff under Rocco we though we were a lock for the auto bid, then comes Stoney Brook, now they are gone. Same results. One game we have to be prepared for and can't do it. We expect more and have reason to be frustrated!! Sorry, no one is saying Fire anyone but not what we expect. CCU has been to the playoffs how many times? How long have they had a football program?

I like Gill. He's a great head coach and has put together a great team. Most of my issues have been with the culture problem that is evident within athletics. That culture problem is even more evident after tonight. But tonight, I can't just blame it on athletics. I've supported Gill in practically every loss, but tonight falls completely on him.

He coached in a way to "not lose" rather than to "win." Some of you understand exactly what I'm talking about. He was conservative until he had to be aggressive and by then, it was too late.

Also, think back to two years ago when both Coastal and us were making coaching hires. We did what we do best and hired a big name. Coastal made a very tough decision, and one that wasn't the most popular at the time. Yet, no one is questioning that decision now. They found someone who came from within the program, was aware of the culture, and knew exactly how to change it.

My question now is how do we change our culture? Ours extends across the board in almost every sport. What needs to happen? You guys are all complaining about the students leaving, but honestly, they have no reason to stay. Students are all impacted by culture. Either they care about the game, and it's going to make or break their week based on if we win or lose. Or going to a football game is just something to do, and when they get bored of the game, they just go do something else. For me, this is all impacted by culture and this is getting old.

I was talking to the wife tonight and what we could/should do is shut everything down: computer lab/library, student center, snowflex, new David's Place, dining hall...everything. schedule no other sporting events around the time of the game, that way there really are only two places students on campus would go...the game, or the ones who don't want to be there can stew in their room.

Maybe we should turn A/C and heating in the dorms off too? Or, we could just put together a better on-field product, and win games? That might encourage students to go....

Why are so many people trying to get fans to or keep fans at the game, by doing things that don't even pertain to football? What if we just won games?

Darn! Another 4th Qtr meltdown. We just can't finish.

I'd like to see in the Gill and Rocco era our record against teams with winning records, how many games we've lost in the 4th quarter, and you know, the numbers that really tell where we are as a program.

'the beatings will continue until morale improves'. I'm not saying this is the worst idea ever. Buts that's just because I'm not familiar with all the idea throughout history.

+1 I've felt since I walked onto Liberty's campus that the athletics culture isn't booming here, especially football. Being from Bama that's what you do on Saturdays, along with hours upon hours of tailgating. My dorm is one of very few (if not the only one) that always sets up prior to 10:00am. Students just go to games to be entertained. They don't love football, they don't love sports. Hundreds if not a couple thousand of the student fans never grew up with a SEC type passion for football, and just want to go where they can have fun on Saturdays. This is in large part because of where our student pool is from, a lot from the northeast. It takes those who have the resources tailgating ALL DAY leading up to the game, doing Gillville, and staying all four quarters to change that culture here, but more than any of that with me being about as passionate as students come, when I've been up Friday night until 3, wake up to see coach Gill at 8, tailgate and grill on my feet until game time, even I want with every ounce of my physical body to leave due to lack of comfort and if we don't have a team worth watching that often pushes "fans" over that physical edge and they go to be comfortable. Just remember too that it sucks for us, but more so for the players. I've talked with several of them tonight and I wish I could communicate to y'all their pain. Encourage them, without sacrificing motivating them, in whatever way you can.

Let's face it - our students suck!!! There's just no school pride anymore... They are spoiled and don't understand what their roll could be. The Bill got quieter as the night went on. For all the activities LU gives these students, the least they could do is stay for the whole game and support...
