I don't think the punt was the problem per say, they hadn't done anything in the PR game all night. It could of had a lil more hang time which possibly could of given our guys time to get down there

One thing that I noticed was that for ODU the refs always spotted the ball for them which also allowed for them to run their hurry up offense, well as for us the ball was basically thrown from ref to ref to be spotted. I wonder if anyone noticed that, or if it was seen thru a replay of the game, which btw I still cant find.

Yep! That's what it boils down to. The fellas got out executed in the final 4 minutes of the game. Crazy how quickly things can turn around. I don't really know the anwer for that situation. More precise reps during practice? Tougher coaching? Greater conditioning? More game film study?

I'm proud of the kids and the coaching staff for competing so hard. I'd be more happy with the win. There are still 9 games left to right the ship. I'm hoping for a nine game winning streak to take us into the playoffs. And a couple wins in the playoffs would exceed my expectations for this year.

The only thing I haven't seen covered yet is why Gill did not call a TO with 2 left and ODU running the hurry up offense. To me the coaches really blew the game in the last 4 minutes. None of this rest on the players.

I'm not sure calling a TO would have helped since you want as much time to tick off as possible. Of course after the incomplete/near pick 6 the clock had already stopped it may not have been a bad idea. Especially given how gassed our guys looked. Not sure it was the egregious. Like say passing on 3rd down when trying to run out the clock..... :x

Agreed. I think the only way a TO looks good there is in hindsight, not in a game situation, unless the coach clearly sees that the D is not lined up right. The reality is that the no huddle offense forces all of these decisions to be hashed out here, because the D had just a few seconds to line up before the snap.

So calling a TO with a safety lined up on the wrong side of the field wouldn't have helped prevent a touchdown?

I agree that it would have. My point is simply that in that situation, it is a huge challenge to see that your safety is out of position and call the TO before the snap. Maybe we had time to see and react, but they lined up and snapped really quickly. In hindsight, it's easy for us to make that call. In that situation at game speed, calling a TO allows them to draw something up. Of course, we had just been gashed deep on the previous play, so maybe we should have seen the need for a TO before they ever lined back up.

+1. And we should have been better coached at faking injuries to stop the clock

Didn't want to start a new thread for this one.

ODU is losing to UNC 80-20 at the beginning of the 4th quarter. The coaches just agreed to shorten the quarter to 10:00. Yikes.

That's our next opponent. Hopefully it will be closer
