If Liberty is trying to schedule FBS games against the ACC and the MAC, then I applaud the efforts made by Barber to position Liberty for the good. I remember him saying that he would never allow for Liberty to play (in my words) blood-money type games. One, Liberty does not need the money (in that manner, at least). And two, we usually play games where we have a chance to pull an occasional upset here and there.
I would call this plan tunnel vision because you have to see the bigger picture at the end of the tunnel. I take the scheduling strategy as this: 1) Liberty aspires to one day be in an upper-tier FBS conference like the ACC, 2) Liberty is trying to gain an invitation from an mid-tier FBS conference like the MAC and 3) Liberty needs the positive media attention if they do pull off an upset.
