The popular kids in school do not run the world. Terrible analogy but I agree with your premise. It does matter how we are perceived if we want to move up but a lot of people seem to think that means compromising our beliefs. When all it matters is actually making significant progress in the money sports

Yes but closers get coffee!

I think that had more to do with people wanting to see NC State play than Liberty.
Duke wrote from Richmond , "The conversation from across the press box was tough to ignore. “Wow, this is a really weak crowd,” quipped one of the men. The other responded, “It’s Liberty…”.

Not to beat a dead-horse, but I don't follow your logic JC. Playing Liberty did not cause 25,000 NC State fans to stay home. Maybe it had more to do with the weather forecast, or Richmond fans in general :?:

It was the season/home opener for NC State that year, the fans would have come regardless of what FCS school it was (or VUL for that matter lol). I'm sure Richmond does not have a great fan base, but we are not a marquee oppponent.

It was a non conference game against an unranked school that has never made the playoffs. Hard for them to get excited about that. Not saying I agree with it, but it is what it is. :beatinghorse

It's 2 different cultures. At NC State the fans were there regardless of who the opponent was. It could have been Liberty, UNC, or Kentucky Wesleyan and they would have still been sold out.

At Richmond, their fans aren't going to brave the rain for Liberty. If they were playing JMU, they would have had much closer to 8,000 regardless of the weather.

Playing a in conference team and long time rival .... you might be right. We'll have to keep an eye on Richmond's attendance the rest of the season. I still think a 0-2 start and a monsoon had more to do with it than the opponent.

According to the stats there were 8076 tickets sold. http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=332640257

William & Mary and Rhode Island drew 10,000 in the rain. http://www.nmnathletics.com/fls/25100/d ... M_ID=25100
