Things I didnt like,

1.) No focus on national recruiting. Liberty needs that.
2.) He let an accused felon play because he thought it would help him get to the playoffs and get a better job.
3.) He was too traditional in his defense and offense for a college game that is rapidly changing and morphing.

Rocco was a good coach who did very good things at LU. It is probably good he left because it seemed as though we were plateauing under him. Many programs go through this. Good luck to him..... except this Saturday!

I know that Michael Rocco has transferred to Richmond from UVA and has to sit out this year (redshirt).

But, does anyone out there wish that we could have had a crack at him this year against Richmond on the opposite side of the ball assuming of course that he was the starting QB?

BTW, is this matchup with Richmond a home and away series for 2013 & 2014 seasons?

This is right Ri, this is the proper context of what I meant.

I am a big fan of Woodrum.

So, that is the question: Does anyone out there wish that we (Liberty) could have had a chance this year to play against Michael Rocco?

Admittingly, it's not going to happen; but it would have been an intriguing storyline.

I've always liked Michael Rocco and wanted him to play at Liberty. Hopefully, when he is eligible to play at Richmond, he will have the chance to come home and play against Liberty at Williams Stadium where he led the Liberty Christian Academy team to dominating performances throughout his high school career.

Does anyone recall who all went from out of LU's Rocco Era coaching staff to Richmond?

Off the top of my head, I can only think of Streeter, Belin, and Manny Rojas.

I didn't care about the other coaches leaving.. But for me personally, seeing Manny Rojas move forward to Richmond was somewhat bitter sweet. I know that it was a good opportunity for him to further grow as a coach at Richmond. But he was also "home grown" at LU too, and as a LU player back in the day, he was one of my "all time" list of Liberty defenders as a student / alumni to watch. It was sad to see him leave the mountain, though an opportunity for him to grow. He really did have a stellar career at LU... I looked it up and outside of even the Liberty stats that he broke, Manny is still # 3 in the Big South Conference for career tackles. We were fortunate to have had him play in a Flames uniform.. and he played ... and stayed at LU - in the "Karcher" era which says alot!

Blaine M. Offensive Line coach was a here a few years. Also a point about Manny, He was brilliant. There was a stat yesterday, I think Nick Pierce brought it up, cant remember, But no one on our defense recorded more than 4 tackles in a dominating win last week. Limited defensive snaps and all around good team defense. Manny was the recipient of lots of defensive snaps, and poor team defense. I do want to see the Dorm Linebacker back at LU one day.

Manny was a teriffic player for us, and his stats are impressive, but like Ri said, gaudy individual stats for a defender are often a result of poor team defense and he played on some bad ones. The line of football players ahead of him for HOF recognition is long and distinguished. We waited so long to start our HOF that I expect a preponderence of the inductees to continue to be old timers for the next few years, with just a few exceptions; most notibly Rashad Jennings, Josh McDougal and Sam Chelanga.

I did not have the initial resentment toward Rocco I had for RMK because we all knew that Rocco´s career goal is to be an FBS coach, and he never presented himself as a ¨lifer¨. As time has gone by it seems more and more to me that he simply did not have the visión to achieve what we need to do here and saw LU´s distinctiveness as something that was holding him back from what he wanted. Of course, with Richmond having absolutely no FBS aspirations, they have to know that they are just a stepping stone for him if he has success there. The way things are going that may not be an issue. He is still sitting on zero post season bids as a HC, and this year doesn´t look promising. Regardless of what happens Saturday, I feel we have upgraded, but a win sure would confirm it.
