I´m a little bummed right now. I thought we were going to have a real med school. Now I discover it´s going to be this osteopathic quackery. There is a degree of legitimacy to it, but if I´m really sick or injured there is now way I am going to trust my treatment to anyone who does not have MD after their name.

When I was a student, there were a few heavy sleepers that woke up on their mattress in unique locations around campus. If there were a lake (pond) in those days, someone would have been 3am rafting.

Disclaimer - I am older, wiser, and do not recommend that any current student attempt this as drowning and/or moonburn may result.

I think your fears are a little unfounded. I would prefer a doctor who looks at the body as a whole not just the symptoms in a certain area. And I think they are less apt to quickly write a prescription for drugs when there may be other treatment options. I've been to a DO who was in an office with MD's. When problems arose with my back, she prescribed therapy when previous MD's I had seen only said here are some pills. The therapy made all the difference in the world. And they are accredited or will be by the same group as MD's by 2015. And all indications are that their training is nearly identical to MD's with the exception that they take additional training regarding osteopathy -
One notable difference in the education at D.O.-granting medical schools is the inclusion of 300 – 500 additional hours in the study of hands-on manual medicine and the body's musculoskeletal system. This training, referred to as osteopathic manipulative medicine,[1] is absent in the M.D. curricula.

So what you want us to have is a place for specialists? When it comes to Primary Care there is little difference between a DO or an MD. I know that the Primary Care physicians in the area are stoked. LU has done a great job getting the word out and every doctor I've talked to, with rare exception, are impressed with the people staring it up. To say you wouldn't let one treat you if you were sick and calling it 'quackery' is just ignorant.

Actually, I heard that they were going to build 8 stories, but due to soft ground, and fears that the building might sink, they are only going to occupy the first four.

I could never figure out the math there...

6 dorms, 8 stories each, 150 kids per floor (?) , @ 1200 total per dorm

plus all the housing on East... plus all the dorms and quads up by the softball field...

plus the hill dorms... thats a LOT of rooms.

probly a TON of that space would've been empty for long time.

but what do I know. Cue BEEJAY to correct me.

No, I do not believe that is accurate. If I remember correctly they are now 9 stories. I'll check on that today.

I wonder if Haize actually got someone to listen to his WVU-monorail idea.
