Extra Extra; A MUST READ

This article comfirms some of the rumors in conference realignment regarding some of the CAA schools such as ODU, JMU, and Delaware possibly moving up. Mostly unravels ODU's backstory on their journey to CUSA and FBS football. This lil quote is driving JMU fans nuts:
"Three days after MacLeod's visit, Selig and Harnage traveled to Fredericksburg to meet with the athletic directors and chief financial officers from James Madison and Delaware - the CAA's two traditional football powers. ODU wanted to see if they had an interest in joining it in moving up. Neither would commit."

Moving to FBS a challenge for most
Tom Kleinlein, the athletic director at Georgia Southern, says it doesn't matter.

"Go ask someone 100 miles from Statesboro how many national championships we won at the FCS level," he said. "No one knows."

Kleinlein pointed out that the lowest-rated bowl games still routinely garner higher ratings than the FCS national championship game.

Great read on why its better to move up if you can to an FBS conference that stay FCS. Even though costs go up exponentially, it about exposure and prestige. Not that we didn't know this already, good read though.

According to Troy AD, JMU is the Plum that is ripe for picking. Sun Belt is sure making it obvious that they want JMU bad.

Troy AD - James Madison "the plum" for Sun Belt Conference
I think James Madison is the plum out there. They've had great success and if we could find a way to get them to come on board, the (Washington) D.C. television market would be a huge asset to our league as well.

Yeah you can't get DC stations in Harrisonburg. In Charlottesville and Winchester is about the closest.

JMU is an increasingly big deal in the DC market. They're not on the level of UMD, Georgetown, Tech or Penn State, but they're comparable to GMU and well ahead of GW, American, and Howard.

They're comparable to George Mason? And well ahead of GW? Where did you find that information?

well I do live here and JMU is not on the level of GMU, heck GMU barely gets a sniff around here, mostly if anything at all will be on the radio saying what there scores were from the game the night before. Only time JMU had the little press they did was because they were playing in FED EX field vs WVU.

As far as sports go, yeah they're ahead of GW. GW may as well not exist in the local sports market. GW hasn't mattered since Yinka Dare left.

They're comparable, but behind, GMU at this point mostly because GMU took a huge jump forward after the Final Four run. JMU has a ton of alum working/living in DC.

As far as the TV market goes, the DC TV market includes places as far out as Hagerstown, MD so yes, Harrisonburg is at least partially in the market. Harrisonburg is listed separately by Nielsen, but they get Fox and CBS from DC (with NBC from Charlottesville). JMU had 8 men's basketball games on the local CSN channel last year as well as a few on the NBCSN deal. They also had 3 of their football games carried by CSN-MA. They're increasingly part of the DC market.

I thought the same thing, Haize. But IIRC, GW was Top 25 a couple times since him, like around 2006 I think. Top 25 = relevance, I think.

Not. SunBelt guy is in dreamworld if he thinks that JMU brings the DC market.

Maybe the Sunbelt guy is thinking longterm? JMU goes to the Sunbelt as a plum Sunbelt does its magic and "BOOOm a few years down the road the plum is a prune", and with prunes who knows where the Sunbelt could spread(those things are nasty on all levels).haha

Has anyone heard about when will the Big South announce new members to replace VMI and to prepare for the eventual loss of Liberty? Any information about who the colleges could or will be?

Monmouth will be joining as an associate member next season (2014) and at this point any additional members (like say Kennesaw State, Delaware State, etc.) wont be able to join officially until 2015 although if they are invited over the next year, they certainly can be considered for 2014 football schedules in preparation for said membership once it is offered and/or accepted.
