I imagine it would be early for the schedule to come out now but does anyone know when Liberty usually releases the basketball schedule?

The last few years it has been ridiculously late. We find out who we are playing piecemeal when the other teams schedules come out.

I'm piecing the GW slate together. With conference games, 25 confirmed so far. Pretty much know the rest unofficially when you add up games we are owed here and owe on the road.....

The GW sid department is the same way, dragging butt on releasing schedules. We had the entire football schedule figured out from other sources way before they released it earlier this year.

For some reason these days our SID is adverse to the idea of releasing anything until the entire schedule is 100% confirmed. Back a few years they would publish a schedule with most of the games and put TBA or something similar for the dates which were not finalized.

You do raise a valid point olldflame but man...you guys have a patience level slightly below my one month old son. I'm dure that we will be seeing a schedule come end of summer or so, we haven't even gotten all of our fall sports schedules yet (waiting on field hockey)

Generally the coach needs to approve releasing the schedule...

First of all, I don´t think it will be a great shock to anyone when I say I really don´t care about the field hockey Schedule. I can´t remember ever looking at one to tell the truth, and I don´t see that changing.

When you live in a different part of the world and only have a small window of a few weeks in December to possibly catch a basketball game or 2, knowing when and where we are playing could be a factor in determining the dates of my flights to and from the states, or even what airports I fly in and out of. I´m already looking at flights on line, and having even a partial schedule would be really helpful.

I didnt expect you to care about it, I brought it up to raise the point that we don't have all of our fall sports schedules and already are asking about winter sports (which basketball is)

From the looks of things, as far as non-conference, Id speculate that Richmond and Georgia State will both be on the road, plus Western Carolina at home, and then the return game from the last year of BracketBusters on the road at Austin Peay. The ones Im unsure about are William and Mary, Iona and Howard. Probably will get a couple sub D1 teams for over Christmas like we do every year.

And that's part of the problem. There's absolutely no valid reason for the fall sports schedules to not be 99% done and published in July.

When have you ever composed or even assisted in the composition of an NCAA DI Interscholastic athletic schedule?

I've done it for four years, and I can tell you that there are a wealth of issues and considerations realized the first time that no one but those who have done it before can delineate. Scheduling puts a program so often at the mercy of the program(s) on the other side of the event. It is also deeply interrelated with the other sports on its own campus who are competing at the same time. Additionally, the sport supervisor on the administrative level must have final approval. At any level, one change ordinarily necessitates a minimum of three other changes - and so on and so forth the domino effect occurs.

The SIDs have nothing to do with it. They write the official release the same day they're told to do so, and they do an excellent job.

Fans are ignorant.

Thank you.

The same people whining about schedules not being out would be the same ones whining when a prematurely released schedule has to change.

+1. SIDs generally don't even see the schedules until the coaches have them finished.

It's July. Fall schedules should be up now. There's no excuse for that not being the case. Winter sports are a different issue, but LU is developing a pattern of slow scheduling/communication of schedules. That's going to have to improve whenever we move beyond the Big South.

Ifif you're so much better at putting a schedule together why don't you offer your services since you obviously know better than not only our athletic department but our resident coach as well...seriously?

NAJ, maybe you have a case for football. But none of the other fall sports have a fan following necessitating schedule posting by July 1. You sound like you're just looking for something about which to gripe.

When you can (if sufficiently motivated and internet savvy) piece together most if not all of a schedule by referring to the schedules of opponents, which have been released, it tells me something.

I appreciate the correction in that whatever blame there is does not go to the SIDs. That makes sense. Just a knee jerk reaction to blame them I guess, since they are the ones deciminating the information. It just seems that with all of the advances we have had in communication technology, software, etc. that this process should be getting faster, not slower, and it seems to me that our football and basketball schedules are being released later every year.

It would be a big mess if the schedule were released before a contract were signed for the game. My guess is that not all contracts are done yet. I'm sure they any to release the full schedule at once. So, even one missing contract can hold up the whole release process.

See, one program is often at the mercy of the other.

I agree with the Papist :D

Football used to be easy and teams could put out schedules basically years in advance with 1 or 2 TBA's but now with all the change and conference realignment it makes it tougher. Doubly so for smaller schools like us.
With basketball you have a lot more games to add into the realignment mix. Then for fun you have (hopefully) TV and Tournament issues. Look at Bracket Buster and when that comes out.
It sounds like you want a running tally board of when games are scheduled. Not that easy to do. Conference wise it could be done, but after that its tough.

Improvements in communication technology doesn't make it faster to put together a schedule. Phones were available many decades ago...

A big part of this is the conference. A lot of conferences have already released their schedules or the opponents that each school will be playing. Obviously this is pretty easy to figure out b/c its your division + the inverse cross-divisional schedule from last year (Liberty Home: PC, Gardner-Webb, Winthrop) but it could still help to appease the casual fan.

A lot of schools have become good at dropping morsels of their out of conference schedule to appease fans (George Washington is a great example). Its been public knowledge since last Fall that Liberty would play in the Corpus Christi Challenge with Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Hampton, and Sam Houston State. I assume Liberty will play at UVA and at either Texas A&M, Missouri St, or SMU as part of this. So why not drop a couple nuggets like this and thus getting the public off your back a bit?

Just saying I don't think this board matters that much yet. They in the department probably don't care a whole lot, nor should they. (Yet?)

The 'Department' reads this board quite often, and is very defensive about it :)
