Amarillo by morning

That was actually on the playlist I had in the car for the drive through Amarillo!

I am a little OCD about my music playlist I put together for road trips. It usually makes the drive more interested. I also had some East Bound and Down by Jerry Reed. I felt like I was pushing booze across state lines.

I thought I would share a few pictures of our trip so far.

The day we left, I saw this sitting in a parking lot in my hometown. This certainly must have been a good omen.



We spent two days at Disneyland and had a great view from our room of the California Adventure park. The new Carsland was a good way to break our kids into a lot of the journey along Route 66 we would be making.



We wanted to take it easy for a bit so we decided to stand on the corner in Winslow, AZ.



The "lovely" Wigwam's we stayed in while in AZ. Please note that the term "lovely" is in quotes. Take of that what you will.



We took your advice Sly and stopped at the Cadillac Ranch. It was a fun few minutes. Walk wasn't bad at all. Wind was pretty fierce though while we were out there!





Once in Amarillo, we had some good BBQ. I'm never the guy to pass up good brisket.



On our way out of TX we stopped in Shamrock and found this great building.

I haven't done that, but I've been all the way to Tacoma. Heck, I can even throw in Atlanta & LA (Lower Alabama, of course).

The DeLorean company continues to exist here in Houston not far from IAH where they primarily do repair work to old models. When I moved here about a decade ago I used to see quite a few around town. Not so much these days.

There are a zillion Cars landmarks along Route 66. I'm glad the kids were able to check out Cadillac Ranch. It is a must stop for anyone on their first trip through the panhandle.

You got that right! I've just about talked my sister into having her daughters wedding in Vegas! I am THAT Uncle!

Honestly, I was unimpressed by Vegas when I went. Although X-Scream and the Stratosphere Sky Jump were two of the scariest/most thrilling experiences of my life.

So last night stayed next to Graceland here in Memphis. I didn't realize that Graceland was located "In the Ghetto..."

Oh, yeah. You get in & out of Memphis as quickly as possible with some barbecue the only distraction. Nashville is pretty cool and then come the Smokies before you hit Virginia.

Yeah, downtown seemed nice driving through but that side of town was quite sketchy. I'm pretty sure I saw a carjacking on my way back from dinner last night.

Stuck on I-40 in stopped traffic about 60 miles west of Nashville now. Staying in Nashville for the night to do some fun things for my son's 3rd birthday, which was yesterday.

This has been a great road trip so far. I think that God has given my kids the patience if Job for this trip. My son used to get restless for a quick drive to the grocery store, but on this drive he is happy and really enjoying everything.

They have Chuy's in Nashville & Knoxville. It is legitimate Tex-Mex in a kitschy setting that is always a hit with kids. In Nashville area, there is one at Opry Mills and another right by Vanderbilt on Broadway just off the freeway. They also have locations in Murfreesboro and Franklin but those might be off your path a bit.

Incidentally, I spotted on the website that they just added a location in Richmond. Virginia is becoming much more palatable to Texans by the minute. I highly recommend their Chuy's Special enchiladas.

I was on a business trip in Austin a few years back and ate at Chuy's. it wasn't bad at all. I love Mexican food but Mexican food in California is very different than Tex-Mex. We're staying at the Opryland resort and just grabbed some dinner at Jack Daniels. Wasn't bad.

I've stayed at Opryland for conventions several times. You will have any easy drive tomorrow heading east toward Knoxville. There's not much to see until you get near the Smokies. And you'll see the signs for Sevierville for a hundred miles or so in advance of the primary exit.

Chuy's is totally overrated. People flipped when we got it in Knoxville. I'm not a fan of it at all.

Unless Tennesseans couldn't handle the recipes, there is no excuse for it to not be awesome. And I have probably eaten more Tex-Mex than the rest of the board combined.

Fair enough. Some folks find the vinegary NC BBQ sauce an oily mess. To each his own.

Heh, sorry guys. Arrived in Lynchburg last night! Stayed at the Hilton near LU and now we are in our new place. I received an email today that our stuff has arrived in Concord. My brother is coming into town tomorrow night so Thursday is a great day for anyone that can help me move our stuff from Concord to here in Forest, where we are at!
